Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hi guys. I was hoping someone could give me advice on buy a car diagnostics kit for reading errors and faults.

I drive a 2010 Hyundai i30 but would like to get something that is universal for when I change my car in the future.

Had a look on YouTube and came across an Android/IOS device but I wonder is it any good. Link below for video

It would be handy to have something that would indicate faults with the transmission, head gasket, sensors, timing belt/chain or anything expensive to repair.

If you search this forum for diagnostics tool you will find many reviews.

This is what I started with https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-da0Y6H5U8

    Max budget?

Hi Biko. Super MINI ELM327 are you happy with it? What is the actual price as I can see a lot of variations online.

Budget I would easily spend €50 - €100 give or take

Would one that connects to my phone give me more detailed information?

It would depend on what Car you have. The Prius for example has a load of PID's (the model specific info) available online.
Even a cheap Chinese Bluetooth obd (under a Tenner) combined with the Torque App is usually better than any code reader that costs less than e100.

edit: have a look at"advanced EX for Hyundai" in the playstore. It's an add-on for torque pro.

Think I might just go with the Torque Pro Elm 327

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Torque-Pro-Elm-327-Bluetooth/dp/B01AC7I7BO

Great reviews and will cost about €20 with delivery

Plenty on adverts.ie for around €10 plus €3/4 postage.
TBH you will get exactly the same from China for €5/6 but you will be waiting 5 to 6 weeks (assuming it even gets here).
I'd sooner spend the bit more and have it within a couple of days.

I got one of those and that Torque Pro app but it doesn't tell you very much at all really.

I have a Delphi 140e that I have for a few years, their current version ds 150e is on ebay uk for 65stg, it coves all cars and trucks right up to 2018, full details on their listing

That is for a cheap chinese clone, not a genuine Delphi

This had so many good reviews but I should have read the negative ones first. Its a cheap knock off with no official OBD chip
