Porch plant ideas

So I have a relatively large front porch and I am looking for some plant recommendations for it. I don't really have much of a clue about which plants are suitable for pots compared to being planted. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated :)

Also, gaultheria procumbens (wintergreen) is lovely, too.
