Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Recently started driving an automatic and my neighbour made a strange comment.

He said "just be careful that you dont lose your licence for driving manual by driving automatic too long".

I dont really like him so I didnt bother to engage but was he just talking through his hat or is this true?

    Thank you all.

Exactly what I thought, but it played on my mind a bit after.

I think it might work the other way round.
If you pass in an automatic (easier) then you can't drive a manual, but not vice versa.

    http://www.rsa.ie/en/RSA/Learner-Drivers/The-Driving-Test/Your-Car/

If you pass your test in an automatic car, you can only apply for a full driving licence to drive an automatic car. If you later want to apply for a full driving licence for a manual car, you will have to pass a test in a manual vehicle before applying for a full licence to drive it.

I passed the driving test in 2001 in an automatic - the code 78 is included on your licence which flags that you're restricted to only driving automatic transmissions. I passed my manual test in 2016, and they just simply removed the restriction (I did require a learner permit for manual and was technically a learner driver again before passing). My full licence is dated from 2001!
So if you have the full manual licence, then you will always retain the full manual licence...

Your neighbour is not 'phone a friend' material , that's the bottom line.

The ignorance of the Irish general motoristnis at times is incomprehensible.

What does happen driving an auto is it makes it very hard to buy a new car in this country as autos are like hens teeth in a lot of models.
