Just let them know 14 days or so before you go. I can't see telling them causing any problems.

Theres a form you need to fill in (or at least used to it's been a while for me) and you have 2 weeks worth of "holidays" you can take a year while on benefits .

    http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/social_welfare/irish_social_welfare_system/claiming_a_social_welfare_payment/going_abroad_and_social_welfare_payments.html

Payments will be there when you get back.

It's none of their business if you go away for a weekend

Yeah OP just don't say anything if its just over 4 days, you only have to take these measures if you are doing a week or two week holiday as the longer time prevents you from collecting your post office payment and you have to see Intreo then to sort it out again.

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)

If you're only away for a public holiday I wouldn't consider you to be unavailable for work.

You are allowed 14 days outside the state. You have to tell the DSP about EVERY time you leave the state in Advance. Days that you are representing Ireland in a sporting meeting don't count in the total. The DSP can and do ask to see bank statements at any time. They are also present at Dublin Airport. Going overseas without informing DSP is not without risk. Funerals might be overlooked though...

If you say nothing and something happens on your trip you will lose all of your benefits and will become in a lot of trouble
just say them that you will go for the weekend and you will be safe

They do not be at the airport checking everyone. They only act upon reports of violations of individuals, and that is the reason they can request the airport presence as well as checking bank statements as part of their investigation into a person breaking the rules.
For the OP, a bank holiday(and a Sunday) is not counted as a day to be available for work. If you're worried, just put in Saturday as a day's holiday and you be fine.
