Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Reconditioning wooden front doors

    We have a lovely wooden front door with stained glass in it but it lets a lot of heat out (probably mainly through that glass). But I'd hate to replace it, nevermind buy a composite door (I think they look awful). Are there any companies/contractors out there that specificalise in reconditioning front doors? (Adding insulation/seals/glazing/etc?)

    I'd be interested in people's thoughts here as well, have similar issue. Was thinking of putting a sheet of glass over the stained glass. But this its early doors in our refurb yet so haven't looked into it properly yet

    Work out what the single glazing is costing you.

    U value of 5, 10 degree temp diff, 1sqm, that's 50W.

    Over a year, 438 KWh, at 10c with boiler is 44 euros per year.

    If it looks nice keep the glass and fix the drafts.

    I have a front window with a full stained glass window panel. I found that acrylic keep the cold out better than glass. I got some wood corner molding, like a picture frame molding, cut to the correct size to make the frame, and a 3/16" plexiglass panel big enough to cover the entire stained glass. Nail and glue the corners, lined the inside edge with thin foam insulation strip, and screw it to the door at each side. Basically an interior storm. Made a huge temperature difference with out changing the light coming in or the attractiveness of the door..
