Finding a UK car that I previously owned?

Is it possible to find the current owner of a car I used to own in the UK??

I still have the reg and know it's still in use as it's being MOT'd etc.

I'd like to buy it back, I sold it about 18 months ago, it was traded in so I've no idea who current owner is. It was a pretty unique focus, 2012 with a good spec and specific modifications.

The DVLA give out information - you can submit a formal request. It's doubtful they'll tell you for the reason you're asking though- it's more for things like vehicle abandoned on your land etc and you need the registered owner's details. You could contact the garage where you traded it but there again GDPR would more than likely prevent them from telling you anything. If only you knew someone with access to the vehicle database...

Any chance it would be up on Ford Focus forums?

Just buy another Focus with a good spec. Why mess around chasing it down for the owner to refuse to sell it back to you? No point in being sentimental over it.

I understand your point, but it wasn’t a standard basic diesel focus or anything.

It was the 1.6 eco boost petrol engine, zetec S, 180bhp, the same engine as the 2012 fiesta st. It had a remap to 220bhp, it had every factory extra.
If what I’m looking for was readily available I’d alreafy have bought one.

So to get back to my question, is there any way of chasing it down, like I said I’ve the reg etc. I know it’s unlikely the current owner would want to sell etc but no harm in looking

Along time ago, I sold my ford escort, by mistake, i spent 2 years looking for it, eventually by freakish luck, I saw it driving down the road. I chased after it by foot, and dived through the driver window, demanding the car back. After a couple of punches, and being pushed out. I managed to throw my business card in. The following day he called, and I bought it back. It was worth it. And I still have it. :)
