Id love to see it if anyone knows of its existence, if it exists. Ive seen a few for other cities like amsterdam and barcelona where all the buildings in the city were colour coded by their age

That's probably only going to work in cities with a history of sensible and coherent urban planning. Archiseek is great when you want to know how old a particular building is.

Insurance companies often ask when a building was built. I suppose something could be assembled.

I don't believe there is one, certainly not published.

http://archiseek.com/ and http://www.buildingsofireland.ie/ have specific buildings, but not in map form. However, do have a root through http://www.buildingsofireland.ie/

The OpenStreetMap.org database has limited information. http://overpass-turbo.eu/s/DQX - if nothing shows, click 'Run'. May not work with certain devices.

This is an interesting thread as I did my postgrad thesis on evolving urban landscapes. There is currently no building age map for Ireland but one could be constituted from Census and geocode data.

And I plan to be involved in putting one together for Dublin and Cork as part of a larger body of work. Watch this space! :)

Oh, if you go to http://map.geohive.ie/ click on 'Base Information and Mapping' and there is a variety of maps of different ages. The '6 inch Cassini' dates from about 1935, plus or minus 10-15 years.

Thanks Victor. When you last posted that link I THOUGHT I bookmarked it. I could not remember who or where I'd first seen the link and I've been searching for ages to try and find it again. :)

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.

what the difference between year_built and year_of_construction, there is no definition for year_built https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/w/index.php?search=year_built&title=Special:Search&profile=default&fulltext=1&searchToken=4k8c6xu2a171mkxas6vxw9prr I imported this into to cartodb just to mess around with it and its unfortunate that the info is in two columns and the columns have text into so can't do a gradient by year without hand copying and pasting into one column and editing out the text

Note that search I linked to only looks for buildings and doesn't include roads, railways, etc. This: https://overpass-turbo.eu/s/DUG will search for the three tags on any feature. It's a has more results, so you will need to confirm it. You can zoom in/out and 'Run' it again on a different area.
what the difference between year_built and year_of_construction
I don't think there is a difference. OSM works on convention, not a strict set of rules. Often, it is down to what becomes popular first, although sometimes they are revised to avoid confusion or conflict with another tag. year_built is popular in Ireland, year_of_construction is popular in Germany and Afghanistan.

"year_built" (2,260 entries on OSM on the island of Ireland, unknown (but lowish) worldwide entries on OSM) suggests a building, whereas "year_of_construction" (165 and 10,805) is more comprehensive, "year" (6 and 4,055) could apply to non-construction features, e.g. an artwork or battle site.

A summary of the island of Ireland entries can be found here: http://stat.latlon.org/ie/latest/tags-y.html
