I was supposed to be off until Saturday as I was working most of the Christmas season. Guess who has to have their break cut short by a day? God I am starting to really hate this profession.. :(

I know it sounds petty but I have being pulling nearly 10 hour shifts a day since the middle of December and all over the week of Christmas then I was working from early afternoon til late. Last Thursday evening I was supposed to be finished at 8...I wasn't out until after 11. And Monday night, (new years eve) I thought I would never get out. Myself and the other two chefs were convinced we'd be celebrating New Years in the kitchen

Any plans I make with friends have to be cancelled or I am running dead late. Anytime I tend to get to myself there's a manager or a chef ringing and bawling at me to come in or cover for a few hours. I honestly thought that I'd get my break this week but no.

I know there is tougher professions (doctors, nurses, paramedics, any of the emergency services really) but chefs, retail staff and bar workers just get the **** end of it too. We're understaffed but we can't hire anyone because there is no one to hire.

I had plans to meet friends tomorrow. I promised them I would try to meet them around Christmas. I couldn't. Anytime I try meet these people, work gets in the way. I get it, they're 9 to 5ers. They don't get that not everyone works Afternoons to late evenings and most weekends.

I had to tell these friends that I couldn't meet up with them now because of work. My friends are pissed at me now because they think I can't say no and I am a workaholic. Try explain to them that I can't say no because we're understaffed and no one wants to be a chef.

Sharpen my knives? I just want to set fire to the world and watch it burn....

(apologies for the rant..I am just in the middle of battling a breakdown)
