Why would that specific aspect of his contract be an automatic motivating factor?

He has a specific job now. Steady the ship and get us to EURO 2020. If he manages it, he'll go out on a high, compared to the low points that O'Neil and Trap left on.

There's a real ceiling in what any Ireland manager can achieve with the current bunch and qualification for a major tournament is that ceiling. Because of that it's difficult to see any Ireland manager having longevity in the job.

Things could get very ugly if the draw this weekend is unkind and a nightmare scenerio materialises where we're drawn with say France and Germany in our group coupled with a 4th seed around our level. It's a serious flaw in the NL set up that we could spend a year getting tanked in qualifying and finish 4th or 5th in our group and we'd still end up in a play off.

Don't think the FAI would be that bothered really

Meanwhile in rugby the Ireland manager has announced he will leave after the RWC in 10 or 11 months time.

And his replacement has already been announced

However I doubt there will be many #browneout posts in a situation where the head coach is on a definite timeline with the replacement already announced

    But isn't that the opposite.

He has decided to retire, and the IRFU is reacting to that. His retirement and successor weren't arranged before he even started the job.

Whilst I am happy to see Mick appointed to the role, the whole thing feels like Staunton/Robson all over.

If it wasn't for this two year only deal, and Kenny takes over, it would probably feel great. But this way, it seems McCarthy has little to lose. Get to the Euros, and walk away happy. Dont get to the Euros, and walk away, knowing it was only transitional/handover role.

    It really is quite bizzare.

Yes, because that's definitely a comparable situation and there are no other reasons people want Delaney out.

They`d care if they felt it in attendances. From the sense I can make out of the convoluted play offs for the Euros, we could finish 4th in a 5 team group and still make the play offs.
Then it would be 2 one off games (a semi final and final play off). I wouldn't give us a hope of going away to play Turkey in a semi final and the Czechs 3 days later having to win both games on the night. How many away double headers against teams around our level have we ever, in our entire history, gotten 6 points from?

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is what you're up against trying to get people to follow/engage with the domestic game.

Sure stick to watching Mayo, Tod.

Hey not all of us in Mayo are supporting that fookwit Delaney and the rest of the FAI top management.
A bit like not all of us voted for the fookwits the flynns.
People do seem to think that getting rid of Delaney will solve things.

People point to his wages, but if you are looking for someone that will 'clean things up' they will demand the same if not higher wages.

If you want to get someone cheaper then you are getting a lesser quality of candidate.

Mary that does the accounts for Ballyhack Utd will be cheaper, she is a great supporter and cares more about the game than Delaney, but she ain't CEO material.

Jaysus how can you seriously write that ?

You have to be in with the FAI gravy train somehow to be singing that tune.
I must check out if Delaney has some Mayo roots and promptly get some roundup.

Then again this is little old Ireland where our PM is paid more that the president of the US.
Granted the current guy is a fookwit and not worth paying $50 never mind what he is on.
And then look how much all our regulators were paid and they couldn't regulate jack sh**.

Why do we tolerate third rate CEOs, chairmen, presidents, etc and yet think that we have to keep paying way above the international norm or we will get no better?
And Delaneys replacement will likely be an FAI insider so how much does that help ?

The FAI have a real financial balancing act to preform all the time, and here is why, I alluded to this last week on another thread.

Ever thought the balancing act is down to how much the top layers earn ??

I am not allowed discuss …

O'Neill sacked by Forest today after 5 months in charge.

The reason for it is being reported as a player revolt due to his tactics and techniques.

    Hmmm.....
