09 MINI First 1.4 engine refurb or replace?

I’ve a 2009 Mini First 1.4. Last week the engine light came on and it started to shudder and misfire and it lost power to about 50-60mph. I thought it was the spark plugs and sure enough, the second and fourth were black upon removal. I hoped replacing them would solve the issue but she’s still juddering and misfiring.

I took it to my local mechanic and he’s said the engine has little to no compression in it and she’s only working on three cylinders.

Now I still owe £2500 on the car so Im hoping that I can either replace the engine or get it refurbed. My only issue is my local mechanic can’t do it and I’m struggling to find a ballpark figure for the work. I want to weigh up wether it’s finically viable to do the engine? I’m struggling to find another 1.4 engine never mind a mechanic who can give me a rough estimate on how much Itl be!

    Can anyone help?

I’m pretty sure the engine in the first is the same 1.4 as in a Peugeot 207 or maybe 398. a replacement shouldn’t be too expensive. Regardless of what you owe, the cars worth fixing.
