Lost car key

Not sure this is the right forum for this, but just wondering has anybody had any success in retrieving lost cars keys.

My wife lost one of the keyfobs for her car this week and we have been told that we need to go to the main dealer to get it replaced. The keyfob costs over €100, plus an additional charge of €75 by the garage for programming it.

It was lost in Curtlestown Forest last Sunday and we spent a couple of hours retracing her steps on Monday, with no success. We've contacted the Gardai in both Dublin and Wicklow and they have no record of any keys being handed in. We've also contacted Coillte and have posted in lost.ie and on a Facebook Dublin Lost and Found Group.

We have a second key, but were told by the garage that it would cost substantially more to get a new key if we lose the second one. I would be very grateful for any suggestions as to what else we might try before we commit to spending the money on a new keyfob.

Replace the key. €175 is cheap. It cost me €400

Trying to find the lost key and giving out your name or contact details risks the finder knowing where you live and them stealing your car, just get a new key and forget about it or else be super careful with the 2nd key.

Get a quote from an independent locksmith before going ahead with the main dealer.
Someone here might know a good place near you.

I contacted a couple of locksmiths, but they told me that I would have to go to a main dealer for the key.

Give Instant Solutions a ring in Nutgrove, they specialise in coded car keys.

    4936728.

They're usually much cheaper than the dealer, I've had car keys done there before.

    What car is it???

I’d be surprised that a decent locksmith can’t replicate and program you a spare?
