Okay, so most of my PC from years ago has been upgraded, just swapped out my 750ti for a GTX1060, and next upgrade is MoBo/CPU.

Can I get something decent for about €300-€400?
Should I state my current rig for a more calculated response?

Yep, what's the current setup? Unless it's an absolute dinosaur, there are i7's for virtually every socket from 2011 on that are still an excellent match for a GTX1060...except 1st gen i7.

Unless you've an AMD FX based rig in which case you would need a new mobo/cpu/ram.

    ~€400 will get you a Ryzen 2600 with decent mobo & 16Gb DDR4-3000

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

    CPU: AMD - Ryzen 5 2600 3.4 GHz 6-Core Processor (£149.99 @ CCL Computers)
Motherboard: MSI - X470 GAMING PLUS ATX AM4 Motherboard (£109.00 @ CCL Computers)
    Memory: Corsair - Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3000 Memory (£113.12 @ CCL Computers)
    Total: £372.11
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

However you'd need extra for a new cooler.

Also I'm pretty sure you don't need the 750 Ti for PhysX.
Have you tried benching without it?

Can I not use existing RAM with it? New cooler too, thought liquid cooled should be sufficient. Starting to cost a lot more than €400.

No, the current gen use DDR4 (introduced in 2014) which is electrically and physically incompatible.

Your H50 is also a 9yo design, so not only would I wager the pump is knackered but it won't have fittings for AM4 socket.

You got great life out of the current system at least!

Also forgot: RAM prices are only now coming down from a 2 year spike.

Can you overclock that i7-930? If you could get it up to a decent speed, it should still work pretty well in new games.

You could get a Ryzen 2600, B350 board + 8GB DDR4 3000Mhz (dual channel is critical) for your budget easily.

The GTX1060 3GB would actually become the instant bottleneck, isn't a great card as it's crippled by the 3GB vram in a lot of the latest games unfortunately.

To re-use your old RAM you'd have to get something like a 2nd hand i7-4770 and new H81M motherboard for about €170 combined, not the worst idea to be honest but probably have to sacrifice some of your 12GB to run in dual channel (like 2x4GB sticks) mode which is essential.
