Scooter batteries

Mods if not posted In correct forum please adjust.. Family member needs to buy a mobility scooter to get around or even get some fresh air. To bring on a plane the battery needs to be lithium ion I think.. if we buy one with a lead acid battery is it just a matter of changing the batteries to lithium and should the scooter…
