Happened out of the blue, when I went to switch off the shower switch the red light stayed on and wont go off now, even with the switch in the off position.

    New switch required?

    Yes.

    My advice:
    1) Switch off at the board.
    2) Don't use it until the switch is replaced.
    3) Get a qualified electrician to do the replacement.

It doesn’t need a light right?!

Yes you can get them with or without, it's handy to have the light on it to remind you it's on, easy to forget to switch it off.
