If we're guessing, I think he's still running his business and also dealing with his 2020 election campaign. He only really focuses on the latter everything's about getting reelected with him, he lets Congress and the Senate do what they want otherwise (unless it impacts a campaign promise.)

Basically, election-year hell is full time in the Trump admin. Wait till 2020...

Sure he doesn't have to do anything.

30% plus of the population will defend him no matter what.

While trump is focused on Mueller, the SDNY flanks him with this

Is this a federal or state investigation? Either way I'm pretty sure Ivanka was running that organisation. This could be the beginning of th endgame just like Mueller putting the Enron wives on the block.

I get the feeling the report is by far secondary at this point. I'm assuming Mueller and SDNY are going for as many convictions as possible rather than providing a report to Congress.

Not sure on your first question.

Yep, Ivanka and the two eldest boys are going to be under considerable scrutiny. Even Melania has some questions to answer.

Every stone they turn over reveals more questionable behaviour.

Mueller palmed this off to the SNDY - and they are not subject to the oversight that Trump and Barr have over Mueller.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Trump will rue the day he ran for office.

You don't become such a brazen dishonest mouthpiece for the good of someone else. Nobody who ever spoke out against hard facts like SHS does, ever did it for anything other than personal gain. Even money isn't enough, Spicer bowed out when it was clear that he was first under the bus as soon as trouble arrived.

I wonder what her endgame is? Does she see herself as a future nominee?

I guess modern history could refer to anything after January 2016, so in effect SHS is completely right.

On the latest legal submission detailing out the possible crimes of the inaugural comm. I guess this is just yet another example of those working around Trump being really terrible people and gosh darn it he simply trusts people too much and obviously knew nothing about any of it.

We don't have the same levels here, but we do have a certain aspect of it in terms of party faithful, but sticking up with the Christian Right is a very lucrative area in the US. SHS is very much playing to her audience.

SHS won't ever go hungry and she can comfort herself that anything that we might fight morally objectionable is covered by the fact that this is essentially the Lords work.

SHS is Trumps link to the Evangelicals through her father.

As I've said before , Trump is their useful idiot to push the Supreme court to the right and overturn Roe vs. Wade and Same Sex marriage etc.

They(she) will defend him for anything as long as he keeps filling those Judicial positions with Christian Right wing Judges..

    This investigation is federal.

The inauguration, like everything else around Trump, stinks. In an article by propublica, the guy who lead GWB's inauguration stated that the numbers for Trump's one didn't make sense.

Greg Jenkins led former President George W. Bush’s second inaugural committee in 2005, which raised and spent $42 million (that would be $53 million in today’s dollars). Asked about how Trump’s team managed to spend so much more, Jenkins said, “It’s inexplicable to me. I literally don’t know.”

They had a third of the staff and a quarter of the events and they raise at least twice as much as we did,” Jenkins said. “So there’s the obvious question: Where did it go? I don’t know.”

The subpoena is fairly extensive too. According to the NYT:
The subpoena seeks documents related to all of the committee’s donors and guests; any benefits handed out, including tickets and photo opportunities with the president; federal disclosure filings; vendors; contracts; and more, one of the people said.
In the subpoena, investigators also showed interest in whether any foreigners illegally donated to the committee, as well as whether committee staff members knew that such donations were illegal, asking for documents laying out legal requirements for donations. Federal law prohibits foreign contributions to federal campaigns, political action committees and inaugural funds.

It may have been missed yesterday but his golf course in Scotland has also been subpoenaed by Maryland prosecutors investigating emoluments violations.
Maryland prosecutors have subpoenaed financial documents from President Trump’s golf courses in Scotland, the Times of London reported Monday.

Prosecutors are seeking documents from the DJT Holdings LLC, which owns Trump Turnberry and Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C., as part of their investigation into whether Trump has violated the Emoluments Clause of the U.S. Constitution.

As an added bonus, the House Intelligence Committee will vote tomorrow on whether to send Mueller transcripts of closed testimony from a bunch of people suspected of lying such as Trump Jr, Kushner, Eric Prince and others. I don't think Mueller will have time to use them for potential indictments until next week, however.

He already had transcripts - he just didn't have the official ones.

That means, if he were so inclined, he could have had the charges ready to go since before Christmas and as soon as the official ones land, all he has to do is cross check to ensure the details are correct and wham! off they go :)

I love this guy's encylopedic knowledge of history.

There are a lot of comparisons and similarities between Trump and Nixon (hence the name for the current scandal - "stupid watergate"), but this memory to the day is very on the money...

Buzzfeed News have published a huge cache of documents from the Trump Organsiation related to the proposed Trump Tower Moscow. Still taking a look at it myself, but could be a huge deal.

It could be, but it probably won't sadly.

And in keeping with that theme, as they say.. There's always a tweet..

Back in 2014 , when Obama was trying to use Executive powers to resolve Immigration issues ,Trump tweeted this -
Repubs must not allow Pres Obama to subvert the Constitution of the US for his own benefit & because he is unable to negotiate w/ Congress.

The current Solicitor General , Noel Francisco and Trumps personal lawyer , Jay Sekulow were both leading lights in the amicus brief (supported by 10 US Senators including McConnell) to the 5th Circuit that overturned the Obama efforts.

    Sekulow in fact said this.
“The founding fathers intentionally separated these powers among the branches, fearing that a concentration of power in any one branch, being unchecked, would become tyrannical.”

But now that it's Trump looking to do it ,seemingly it's not Tyrannical or because the President is incapable of negotiating with Congress..

Will the lack of GOP members on the committee affect the legality of this vote?

As long as there's a quorum, it's all above board.

Just looking through the buzzfeed document dump in their story and it makes Trumps claims of no business dealings in Russia like he was saying during the campaign officially and before that to be utter lies. It's clear there were ties to Russia in a business sense.

In fairness to The Don, he said “I get no money from Russia”, not “I get no money from Russians”.

He also said IIRC “I have no business in Russia”, which was also true since the Trump Tower Moscow deal fell apart, although it wasn’t for lack of trying.

There are emails from Russians saying they have spoken to people who were willing to finance Trump Moscow. There's even pictures of what the tower would look like and info on which bank in Russia would fund it and the chairman of that named bank is putins "top finance guy" Donald trumps signature is on the agreement dated October 28th, 2015. He said he had no dealings with Russia and no ties to Russia which isn't true. He had dealing with Russia(putin) and there are email exchanges where they talk about getting Trump elected and putin will say nice things about Trump. I mean let's stop this Russian hoax rubbish please.

Overall a good state of the union address.

The solider and the prisoner at the Dachau concentration camp was very moving.

It never ceases to me amaze me how ignorant some ppl are about the contribution the US made to ending WW2. Of course that's easily forgotten when anti-american types have noting much to complain about other than than the US bombing other countries.

I particularly liked his words on drugs and late term abortion. I continually find it shocking that there are those who feel it's okay for illegal immigrants specifically from the south to have a way into the US, when this sympathetic view has given rise to so many problems, and he was quite right to point out specific tragic cases. The lower working classes are always more responsible for violent crimes than any other. But these days it's racist to think such a thing. It's no wonder he was elected.

There were a few cringeworthy moments though. After he said "If it weren't for me, we'd be at war with North Korea", I was astounded that anyone applauded at all.

That said, some flashes of genuine off-the-cuff humanity as well. (Which almost is saying something in itself if its presence is to be remarked upon)

Is the issue that he tried to have business in Russia, or that he said he didn't after trying?

Depends on when you ask that question. Like every answer from Trump et al, it evolves once new evidence emerges.

Btw - this just in. Trump's inauguration has nothing to do with Trump. Just like Trump's campaign has nothing to do with Trump. Just like Trump's personal lawyer has nothing to do with Trump.......
