Darren knocks on the door and declares "hi-hoooooooo!"

No response save for the echo from his knock.

At the bottom of the stairs he enters a chamber that looks like a small chapel. Three wooden statues of deer headed men raise their dagger holding hands to the sky at the back of the room.

Some old candles lie about and flag showing a black elk on a red background.

The rest of the room is filled with rows of chairs.

If there are no obvious signs of danger or distress on the door he goes back to the shop and looks for any two metal tools (spanners ideally) and two-spanners the padlock off, then throws the door open while jumping out of the way.

When Darren jumps out of the way he is quickly glad he did so as an enormous tongue lashes outward from the shadowed interior of the mill. The force implied by the whiplash crack of the tongue might have killed him.

    "Sandra? Is that you?"
Don't be silly, it can't be, there clearly was no producers cock in that beasts mouth.
"Mill's out of bounds, guys!" He calls, pushing the door closed then skirting around towards the houses while watching the doors to make sure they don't reopen.

They look like the Champion did in his skeletal form. The wood is very old, though how old Cron cannot tell without taking some time.

Three of the houses look pretty simple. Two floors, each with two rooms. Wooden construction, now exposed to the air. The fourth however is brick, though the paint is long gone and fairly intact, with a heavy wooden door.

Cron tries moving them around, listening for any clicks or sounds.

'I once played a game where the statues had to face a certain direction and it opened a hidden door. Wonder if something like that might happen here?'

    He muses to himself.

Cron hears a click and the back wall opens, revealing a spear glowing with orange energy.

    The spear speaks to Cron.

"Cron, you have always known you have a destiny, with me you shall find it. For I am the spear that pierces the hearts of gods!"

There is one with the glass still intact. It's simply a well kept 19th century house on the inside. Green wallpaper, wooden chairs and tables, a tea set. Within the sitting room there is a desk with hundreds of sheets of paper bearing occult symbols.

Cron looks weirdly at the spear.

'So you can talk, eh? Any chance you could conjure me up a steak... or a burger or something? I'm famished!'

He grabs the spear and waits for a response or reaction.

    "Regular sized furniture. Crafty buggers."
If he still has that shotgun (else : pistol) he primes it and tries pushing then pulling the front door, staying to one side and preparing to shoot low.

Then a steak appears at his feet.

The door opens easily enough. Nothing emerges from the house.

'Bloody - just the way I like it! Thanks chum! Now let's go and pierce some God's hearts, just so we're both happy.'

Cron slings the spear over his back while he tucks into the steak and heads back upstairs. He washes it down with another swig of whiskey.

If he reaches the study he checks the tea set first, then the desk.

The tea set looks like it might be worth a bit, but nothing else sticks out about it.

The desk is quite fancy, mahogany. Very out of place with the rough and tumble 'set up in a day' feel of the rest of the town.

On the desk are two boxes and about twenty loose sheets. The desk has two drawers.

Unless there's fire nearby or the boxes look very delicate Darren tries hacking at the legs of the desk to make it a more appropriate height for its tiny bastard owners.

The desk collapses, one of the boxes opens slightly, revealing a large leaf.

Bubby sees Darren head into the largest and fanciest house in the town, on the opposite side of the street from the Shop, Mill and Saloon.

Cron had entered the Saloon and not yet come out.

Darren seemed to have jumped back from something at the Mill after looting the shop.

Nathaniel senses a foul presence from the the Mill, definitely a major spiritual manifestation within.

Bubby quickly catches up with Darren within the house. Seeing the desk with papers Darren has smashed and the boxes that have fallen onto the ground.

Bubby follows Nathaniels gaze, still somewhat confused by the scene in front of him, and looks at the Mill.

"That, seems like it could be reason for concern, yes...". Nathaniel moves to the door opening to see if he can get a better view.

Going through the papers, he sees the community here entered into some kind of relationship with Sha'gal, just as Bubby himself had.

It seems Sha'gal had been asleep for a long time due to lack of worshipers. When the town was built, during their first winter they needed to hunt to survive and they were pretty ruthless about it. That's what stirred Sha'gal back to activity.

It seems they worshipped him for forty or so years before some of their number went to the nearby river basin to establish Augusta itself. This seems to have been a result of Sha'gal telling them of a god who was once in the same pantheon as himself. A god of life and death.

It seems some left this village to worship or find the other god. The papers give the location of the main temple for the new god, called Ghutuk. It seems the worshipper of Ghutuk and Sha'gal were friendly for a while, until disagreements turned to slaughter and this mining town was wiped out.

With the other god, Ghutuk on his mind, Bubby continues staring at the shadows pouring out of the mill.

He lays his hands on Darren's shoulder, in an attempt to distract him from the dwarven infused rage and focus on the blackness at the mill.

Bubby uses his sight, to see into the shadows, in an attempt to detect anything otherwordly.

OOC: lol, sorry forgot Second Sight wasn't just for Investigate rolls

Bubby looks into the room and sees a creature of pure muscle, no skin covering said muscle, chained to what seems to be a steam boiler. It's massive, at least 15' tall. Its arms end in 5' talons that look sharp enough to slice a man in half.

The creature seems to have been what the Ghutuk cult used to attack this town. Bubby gets an image of the other cult's temple from the creatures mind, confirming the notes from the desk.

As he does, the creature looks straight at him.

Bubby feels it warning the Ghutuk cult.

Bubby turns around to Darren and Nathaniel.

"Sh*t, I think we have to go... Whatever is in the Mill, spotted me and has alerted the cult."

He hesitates, slaps Darren on the cheek and announces "I got this!"

Bubby runs towards the Mill, hesitates as he comes closer and proceeds running in the opposite direction.

"Where is that car of yours?!" he screams at Darren's direction as he continues legging it.
