Sharing 2 companies GALs in Exchange

Hi ..I'm new here ; just wondering would anyone have any advice on sharing GALs between 2 separate companies, I think MS have MIM to do this ; but is a cross fed trust also required and SQL server in each org ? Any advice appreciated Thx
