Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Unislim or Slimming World?

Hi lads, I'm 20 years of age and I've fallen off the wagon big time with the last twelve months since starting college and reckon its time for a change. I'm kind of skinny fat so I get away with it to an extent but I'm not as slim as I once was, and so here I am.

I have two options: Unslim or Slimming World.

I don't know what's the difference and if one caters more to some people than others, but all help is appreciated.

Track your food and just eat below your recommended daily allowance calories (calorie deficit) Add a bit of exercise and the weight will gradually fall off you. Best way to do it imo.

Looked up what Unislim was, it's v similar to SW with free foods and allowances for breads
60g of oats or 2 slices of 30g wmeal bread.

Potatoes 200g still the same as is the 60g dried weight for rice pasta etc.

Peanut butter is no longer a treat (love that).

Sauces, and more importantly soups under 60cals per 100mls is free - for me the soup is brill for lunchtime.

3 tabls of full fat plain unsweetened yogurt is free per day. All fruit is now free, and you can have one banana per day.

Yums are now called bites (hate it, but it is what it is) - these are the main changes, not much really but I don't think you'd need to get a new book.

I've only tried SW (down 82 lbs since April!) so I can only recommend it. The plan is extremely generous (which is why it's so successful) but you have to be able to prep meals yourself and have some willpower until routine takes over. The SW community is way bigger than Unislim so might be better in terms of support.

What's great about these plans/weekly support group is that there's rules; what to eat and what not to, tips for staying on track and accountability. Saying generalities like "don't eat so much X and get some more exercise" is too non-specific. Being given a plan and sticking to that will sort you out quicker than by yourself!

Great time to join with either, beat the January crowds! Best of luck :)

Agree in general, however the support/advice of the group and the accountability of weekly weigh-ins can be hugely beneficial to getting the whole process going. It can keep you focused for the initial few weeks and the routine of it can help form new habits, which some people find easier than trying to form new habits on their own.

I've been doing it the way you outline and it's working great for me, but I recognise the benefits of a plan/group-based method like SW, and I've always had it as my backup plan if I found myself struggling or plateauing. For many people, groups like SW/WW/Unislim are the boost they need to get into good habits and keep it going.

Sorry for not replying sooner, college and stuff!

Joined Slimming World, will be going to my first class on Wednesday.
Tipping the scales at 14st 7lbs, considering my height (5'6) I'd want to be bringing it down to 12st which I feel is realistic without starving myself.
