Awh, so hard to know what to do. See, I'm entitled to the days but it's nit going down well that I've had about 7 appts since January. I also have other health issues which need to be monitored. I think I'll ring the midwives on Tuesday and ask their advice. Such a catch 22 though cause I'll need another day to attend that appointment if I decideto retest. It shouldn't be this stressful :(

I wouldn’t let having to attend another appointment influence your decision. You’re entitled to attend antenatal appointments. If you broke your leg/had another medical condition you’d have to go to those appointments too! Some people have more difficult pregnancies than others.

Well its more than more appointments. Women with GD are more likely to be induced or sectioned around 38.5 weeks. If thats not what you wanted, for that reason id repeat

Thanks so much for the advice ladies. I really appreciate it. I happen to be getting bloods done in my GP this week, (out of work hours of course :D ), and I rang today to see if they can do a fasting glucose test which they can. Not sure if my hospital will accept that result etc but it'll put my mind at ease a bit anyway and I'll take it from there.

It really is horrible though to not have the support you need at a difficult time, especially when you're entitled to attend all appointments. I just have to try not to let it stress or upset me.

    Thanks again!!:)

I think she did fail the test though? So if you starve yourself before it and avoid carbs you might pass it but it could be a false result. Most people can eat junk and pass it fine so if you fail it I would err on the side of caution and assume you do have it.

It was the fasting blood that was slightly elevated and after speaking with my consultant she mentioned re-testing (I didn't even think this was an option so it wasn't me who asked for it) I think because it was so borderline and the tests after the glucose drink were fine it could have just been tipped slightly by my eating the previous day. I may aswell get the glucose test in the GP, I'm in for other bloods anyway and then just take it from there :) I plan on eating as I normally do today so no trying to skew the result or anything. It's just for my own peace of mind as it was such a marginal elevation. If it's elevated, that's fine and I'll know for definite but if it's not I'll chat to my consultant about the next step :)

Has anyone ready any good hypnobirthing books that they recommend?

Ive been reading Practical Ways to Make Birth Better by Siobhan Miller. Shes a UK based hypnobirthing teacher. Finding the book excellent and straighforward for the birth partner too!

If it was me I'd bite the bullet and do the retest. If you don't they will probably treat you as a GD case and advise certain things that may be unnecessary i.e. induction, section etc. It will also be annoying at appointments when they go on about GD and in the back of your head you don't really think you have it.
I'd retest so I'd know either way.

And dont mind the time off thing, I thought that in my job on my first baby and in hindsight no one really cared!! Was all in my head!

Yeah I'm doing the retest tomorrow :) Turns out my level was 0.04 above the cut off so midwife advised doing it again.

Oh I wish it was all in my head re work but 100% not unfortunately:(

Well I'm glad I got retested....bloods are absolutely perfect so I don't have GD! It was the kick I needed to just eat a bit better and not have silly binge days!!:D Thanks for all the support ladies!:)

    Hi ladies

I'm very happily in the third trimestre at week 28 plus a few and by god it's been a journey these last 6 months!

The hematoma cleared up after 10 weeks spotting and 5 heavy bleeds and clots. I was taken off pelvic rest and given the ok that we no longer had a threatened miscarriage... hallelulaj

Second trimestre was a breeze in comparison to first and really started to relax and embrace that things were working out! Gained about 14 pounds and am happy with that. Was able to start doing a bit more exercise and started shopping online. Got most of the basics.

Now into the third tri and we got suchhh a fright yesterday. After 90 mins of being prodded during a routine ultrasound was given an urgent next morning referral to a heart specialist to do a more in depth US of baby's heart. It turns out that baby has an extra blood vessel in his heart that usually disappears during heart development, but in about .04% of the population remains. Luckily it's appears to be non threatening. Actually we have a lot of NON threatening anomalies in this pregnancy:

-umbilical cord with a single artery (baby´s growth is spot on so it´s all good)
-placenta cotidion, split almost equally in 2 parts but still connected via tissue (docs need to be aware it is all expelled during a vag delivery)
-velamentous cord insertion high up on the placenta so that´s fine (apparently dangerous if near cervix as cord vessels can rupture, vasa previa)
-extra vessel in the heart but physiology of baby shows zero negative affects as a result.
-extra long bendy umbilical cord, just unusual apparently they´re usually straight
-A vessel that appears to leave the heart in an unusual position but corrects it´s position a little further up, no issue there just different

So there was me thinking our first pregnancy might have issues with getting pregnant at 36 years and suffering from nausea, in fact had zero problems on those fronts. Oh the naivety!!

Anyway I now get that no pregnancy is easy for so so many reasons and the whole thing is a miracle!!

    Bring on August!!

    Hi Sarah

That author, Siobhan Miller, also has an online digital course you can buy and do in your own time. It cost me €50.

She goes through all the science of hypnobirthing, stuff for birth partners, breathing technique's and a birthing plan on it.

Highly recommend it!! The name of her company is The Positive Birth Company

    X

    Highly recommend it

I've been debating getting this too as the hypnobirthing classes in the Coombe have been cancelled now and I cant afford a private one!

Oh - I wonder why they were cancelled. I actually tried to get into one of those classes but I left it too late and they were booked out.
When I was telling my friend she told me she actually found reading the book more useful than the course.

Lack of funding apparently. They only rang me yesterday and course was meant to be on this Saturday.

My OH is still reading the book so when hes done I think we will practice the techniques and write the birth plan and see how we go. :)

Check out The Elbow Room in Smithfield, there are often hypnobirthing courses run there.

How is everyone feeling about actually giving birth. I'm feeling surprisingly calm at the moment and feel ready for it. Not sure whether I'm delusional or it's all the prep I've done :D

I am feeling very calm about it as well actually. I hope that doesn't change ;)
I keep saying that I have had such a dream pregnancy, I have been so lucky that I cant really complain about a few hours of pain/discomfort!

Im probably more nervous this time. Ive had 2 horrific tramuatising births on my first two which both ended in surgery, once I ended in Icu, so this time I am having an elective and I am PETRIFIED 😂 the thoughts of how clinical it all is is making me panic! Never an ounce of nerves on the other two.

Big love to you. At least with an elective there won't be the trauma of your last two and it will be a lovely calm environment instead of an emergency. Xxx

At 31 weeks I think Im finally getting into prep mode! Can you believe its halfway through June!!

Planning a home birth so getting bits for that ready and prescriptions filled by GP and everything over the next few weeks..

It all seems so far away until you hit the 30 weeks and the countdown starts to go into single figures!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 85 ✭✭Baby19

30 weeks here and am planning a shopping trip over the weekend...feel like I've nothing!!
Have an antenatel class Saturday so hopefully that goes well :)

Got the whopping cough vaccine on Monday and have felt pretty crap since. Temperature, swollen glands etc. All normal though apparently and only a small number of women have a reaction to it...lucky me!!

Wow 2 home births. amazing ! Look forward to the birth stories! Have you done one before??
Car seats for both girls(big and small) bought this morn. Need to try the dreaded 3 across the back.
Trying to get as much organised before august starts as have one back to school and one starting playschool while im in hosp.

10 weeks today and ill have a 1 day old ðŸ˜ðŸ˜

I've been told I need a scheduled C section too - mid August. Baby has been complete breech all the time and doc reckons manually moving him might be risky and traumatic.

The cord is inserted dubiously into the placenta with a single artery and the placenta is split in two which takes up more space and they reckon inhibits the baby from turning naturally.

I don't mind how he makes his debut just hoping he'll be healthy. Every ultrasound they've spotted something else that's outside of the norm and I'm just tired of the uncertainty now - want to meet him and for docs to tell me his organs etc are ok and functioning properly. We would like to have 1-2 more so hopefully those pregnancies will be simpler.

Not long now... how are you all doing? I´ve put on a stone and a half nearly and have some lower backache, if I sit at desk all day then I get hobbit feet. In general I feel good and emotionally it´s been a fairly smooth ride despite the worries.

  • Registered Users Posts: 85 ✭✭Baby19

Oh Eurozonelady, that's so tough. I hope your last few weeks of pregnancy go really well!

I'm 32 weeks tomorrow and I'm WRECKED! I'm finishing work on Friday so it'll be great to have time off to just relax a bit.

Baby is so, so active. My whole stomach is moving as I write this! Baby is on the way to being head down so hopefully it keeps going in the right direction :)
