"quiet" coal?

We have a dog that has become sensitive to the crackling sound of an open fire.

Turf and briquettes are no problem, but wood and standard coal cause distress.

I'm not in a smoke-free zone, so haven't really tried smokeless coal.

Is there a particular type of coal that has less cracking sound.?

    Ovoids.

Thanks - wife has a dislike for ovoids as they "don't look great

But dog takes absolute priority, so I'll be trying them.
