NES Pal versions

Just wondering can anyone help me, I’m not able to play the Super Mario 3 shown below on my NES but I am able to play the super Mario/Duck hunt. They are both NES versions but I take it that one is Pal A and the other one is Pal B. I thought a NES would be capable of playing both versions or am I wrong? Any help…
