I'd avoid any Marvel/Russo/Cast account on Instagram/Twitter/Facebook too.

Basically every comment section is littered with spoilers.

Very easy to ruin the film if you want to look for the spoilers.

I'd say we'll start seeing things spread through WhatsApp too as Memes or videos eventually.

It'll be a long couple days until Friday night for me

Even have to be careful at the cinema since there's gonna be such a short runover between the films, only planning on landing ~10 mins or so before the scheduled time

I'm not seeing it until Saturday night so I'm going to avoid social media until then

Yanks seem to have a penchant for speaking matter of factly about things they haven't a clue about so it's hard to know what are legit spoilers and what is just people putting their own opinion forward as fact. Haven't come across anything I would call legitimately a spoiler so far thankfully but when I heard about the leaked footage this morning that's when I said I better start taking better counter measures. :pac:

Most will be rightly tagged as a spoiler, but there'll still be lots of out of context stuff that will appear on various meme related subreddits that will appear everywhere

Message from a friend (everyone in our circle with an interest in the MCU and film got it) who hasn't seen the trailers or anything related to the film. Which in this day and age is impressive..

I know Avengers: Endgame is approaching, so please can we all agree to keep it zipped regarding spoilers until we've all seen the film.

I remember the day the The Force Awakens was released, I was watching a cooking video on YouTube and someone posted a major spoiler in the comments. It seems some scumbags were going to random videos and posting the spoiler. I still remember the text
Han Solo is killed by his son Kylo Ren
    .

Thankfully I'd already seen the movie on a midnight screening. Need to be careful until you see Endgame. A lot of assh*les out there.

A regarding that leaked footage, you could see some comments somewhere like "I saw the leaked footage and XYZ dies". That person may not have actually seen it and doesn't know who dies, but it would still ruin the film in a way because you'd be waiting for it to happen, and it is did happen coincidentally, you'd think it was actually spoiled for you.

Learned not to do this the hard way.

About 20 years ago, I can recall walking into X-Men 2 as a young man with my nerdy friends and exclaiming for a laugh "oh yeah do you not know Phoenix is in this?" that at the time being a very unlikely thing and having zero prior knowledge of the movie.

They were NOT happy with me after.

Happened me with the events of 'Logan'. I was so looking forward to going to see it, and about a week beforehand I was flicking through something on Facebook (totally unrelated to the movie) and some thundercunt had written 'Logan kills Xavier, and he dies' and by jaysus did it ruin my excitement for the movie. I waited 2 years to watch, I was THAT pissed off

Just heard about the leak. No way do I want to watch it. Same time I am curious just how much is actually spoiled.

Without saying it how bad we talking? Gives the ending away or just major plot points?

The leaks are rotten quality. No sound on the ones I saw and they don't really give any story away. Show obvious things.

Major plot points are spoiled and as for the ending..., kinda, I guess? It will take some speculation but there is enough to piece together a strongly accurate ending prediction.

What the heck did you watch? There was sound and it provided extremely important dialogue points and you cannot sit there with a straight face and say it did not give any story away. You must be a clairvoyant if what you saw was "obvious".

Mad. this is gonna be hard to avoid.
I was just reading a review of something completely unrelated to Marvel on AV Club, I looked at the comment section and someone posted a picture from a marvel comic, it didn't mean anything to me, until I seen multiple people complaining that its an endgame spoiler, if true, this f**kwit has giving away at least 1 major thing from this move.

if it's from a comic, it's hardly a spoiler seeing as the comics are the inspiration. All this talk of spoilers for this and GOT is wrecking my head

If I was to post the same comic strip, and tell you it was a spoiler from endgame, it would definitely give away something big from the film. It was 100% a spoiler.

This is a golden ticket! You get to watch the movie twice and your second viewing will be better because you'll have a more mature understanding of the movie after processing the first viewing.

As for your friends, well, just play dumb :pac:, besides, you'll be able to mention key points that they've missed and be a all knowing godlike figure to them.

I too saw it at least two weeks after the release. Saw a post of FB with the "new Spider-man figure" and copped what would happen to him. Also a good few "I don't feel too good Mr Stark" memes popped up.

Have tickets booked for Wednesday night for this one :)

    release or chronological?

There are 21 so if you watch them in release order you will know everything,

For Engdame, I dont disagree with this list:

In total in the MCU, yes

But for Avengers movies together it would go

    Avengers Assemble (1)
    Avengers Age of Ultron (2)
    Infinity War (3)
    Endgame (4)

CA Civil War is basically Avengers 2.5 and directly impacts Infinity War too

There’s other movies you may want to watch to be fully clued into things, like both of the GOTG movies but in terms of just Avengers movies its the 4 above

I would recommend watching the following in this order :

    Iron Man
    Captain America
    Thor
    Avengers Assemble
    Captain America The Winter Soldier
    Guardians of the Galaxy 1
    Avengers : Age of Ultron
    Captain America Civil War
    Doctor Strange
    Thor Ragnarok
    Avengers : Infinity War

This will give you knowledge of everything you need and is in my view, the best movies of the 21. Everything else is either not important to the plot or isn't good enough to bother watching.

Edit : I edited to include Doctor Strange as its a decent watch and its important to know exactly what he can do.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,024 ✭✭✭✭Baggly

I think the Ant Man movies are going to be important and they are decent to watch too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,084 ✭✭✭✭Kirby

I disagree somewhat. While I think Paul Rudd is great, the two Antman movies themselves aren't that great and have no plot points in them that you need to know going into the Avengers.

Sure, he might end up being vital in Engame but you don't need to see either Antman movie to know what he's all about. Cap Civil War does a fine job of explaining him, while being a cracking movie itself.

Basically, he has a suit that can shrink him or enlarge him. What else do you need to know? Like Black Panther, there aren't any important plot points in the film and they aren't good enough, in my opinion, to warrant a place on a "must watch" list.

Its an interesting point of view. Does DS not fall in the same category?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,084 ✭✭✭✭Kirby

Not really. Personally, I find Doctor Strange a better movie but leaving that aside, you can watch Civil War and know all the important points to Antman. It introduces him well. This is Scott. This is his suit. This is what it can do.

If you don't watch Doctor Strange, who he is and what he can do is a total mystery. Neither Thor Ragnarok nor Infinity War introduce him. He's just there and doing his thing. If you don't have his origin....he is a VERY confusing character.

To quote a friend of mine who hadn't seen Doctor Strange and was watching Infinity War with me, "Who is that guy? Is he like....Superman?"

Explain Antman in a sentence. Guy has suit that can shrink or grow.

Explain DS in a sentence. Good luck. Whats wrong with his hands? Why can he fly? Oh, its the cape? Is the cape alive? Whats that ring on his finger? What about the weird necklace he's wearing? Can only HE use it? Whats the mirror dimension? And so on. His origin explains all that. Without it, he's a bit of a "WTF" character.

I don't disagree with your characterisation of DS. However he gets enough of a cameo in ragnarok and gets enough of an intro in IW that you will know he is a wizard and given he refers to the time stone in IW a few times its not a leap to guess what that does from context. So if his back story is necessary, so is AMs, for me. Agree to disagree I guess.

Am ties in with the bigger universe and is gonna play as key a role in EG as DS did in IW. Given the movies are entertaining and quite funny, I'd give them a watch as well. Otherwise the only movie on your list that brings brevity in any real amount is ragnarok.

    He's a wizard.

"He's here to steal a necklace from a Wizard".

The problem with both your and Tony's explanation is that it doesn't explain the next 8 questions you have about him. Trust me, I've watched Infinity War with non-marvel people and only Vision is harder to explain than Dr. Strange.

It would be the equivalent to answering the question of "Who is Thanos?" with the answer "He's big blue guy." While true, it doesn't actually answer the question.

Antman is one of the simplest heroes to explain. He has very little depth. Thief. Has kid. Has suit that makes him really small or really big. And thats it. I doubt we will see the quantum realm outside his own movies so there is no need to explain it. He's a very uncomplicated hero.

Apart from the fact that he'll be in the quantum realm at the start of the movie.
They're all really uncomplicated. I like these movies but they're comic book heroes.

Surgeon, has accident, learns magic to heal himself, becomes head wizard.

Any magic you see him do is because of that.

They are comic book heroes. You can reduce all of them to a paragraph if you really want to.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,084 ✭✭✭✭Kirby

But some are simpler than others.

You can explain most of the Avengers in one line, like Antman. Hulk is the same. Very easy to explain. Some are complicated.

Seriously, try to explain Vision in a sentence to somebody who has never seen the movies before. No matter how concise you make it, they will have questions about Jarvis, Ultron, vibranium, the mind stone, his powers, etc.
Apart from the fact that he'll be in the quantum realm at the start of the movie.

I'm fairly sure he isn't. In fact I'd wager a very large sum that the first we see of him in Endgame is what the trailer has shown us.....him showing up at the front door having already escaped it.

Surely that point is moot with regards to what we are talking about, since vision doesn't have his own movie to skip.
