is there anywhere to get the nox figures for these older cars to calculate VRT?

  • Registered Users Posts: 73,454 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

You could assume a figure of €600, which is the max for a petrol.
There probably wouldn’t be any documentation showing Nox.

The UK Gov have a great site for checking all new cars since 2001.

how do you calculate it tho without nox figures. It says if nothing is entered it will use max figures

Max figure is €600. You can’t calculate it, it has to be on the cert of conformity.

    Not always accurate. Be careful.

I know Carinas are a good motor I’ve had plenty of them over the years.

I refuse point blank to accept that these are worth anything north of €1k barring a GTi

https://www.donedeal.ie/view/27103402 - €2k for a D-Turbo with no Nct or tax that’s been pulled out of a barn that it was sitting the last 10 years.

https://www.donedeal.ie/view/27103391 €2600 for a base XLi, at least it had test.

    Lunacy.

I can't fathom it at all.

When I was growing up (born mid 80s) a Carina wasn't a desirable car. It was a grand car, nothing fancy like an Avensis. Can't see any reason they would be appreciating

I know there's obviously a market but it's a bit lost on me!

It's like the Corolla Twin-Cam in my eyes.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,854 ✭✭✭PsychoPete

It's the whole nostalgia thing I suppose saying that I have a 93 corolla that's fairly battered as my 3 or 4 day a week daily even though I have a A6 C7. It's great, don't have to mind it or even service it but I wouldn't be mad enough to pay more than 500 for one

Would you like to be the 13th owner of this 24 year old unremarkable Toyota?
No probs, just ring Jimmy, don't panic if he doesnt answer straight away,he's not in a hurry.

Back in the day there was a chap locally who had a 1.3 Corolla with a visor saying "TRUST" as in Trust turbos. Ridiculous and all and that was ironically you
couldn't trust him as far as you'd throw him and all that.

I remember "the carina touch" stickers across the back window in Limerick!
Or the very popular "pioneer" even do they had a silver crest head unit :D

I think that looks savage, there's a thousand euros worth of wheels on it

Not next nor near a 4k car though. It's not even originally red ffs.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,647 ✭✭✭✭punisher5112

Stick nismo on it nobody notice....

Without them stickers though I actually think the carina is a nice car. Maybe I'm sick or something but I actually like it but not 4k like.....

If I'm spending €25k its not gna be on a na 2L 4 banger thats overhyped and has about 200bhp.

He admits in the ad that he does be doing rings and drifting also. Not something you want to hear if thinking about buying it.

But they are a decent car those 86's. LSD RWD and yes only 200bhp but that is pretty much the limit of VVT at 2 litres. They could probably get more power if they opted for VVL. Probably 220bhp so not a huge increase but a increase all the same.

He will be a long time financing the mortgage. Surely that’s a 10k car?

I'd say that thing has seen more donuts than homer Simpson.
Na Boxer engines are notoriously dogs for adding power to.
Just buy a wrx, s chasis or evo for that money if you have to have a 4 banger, I can think of many way more fun cars in that price range and lower.

Quick look the next 13 is €15k
There's a 15 for €26k with a turbo and mapping and no mention of having modified the internals so ya know have fun when that ****s itself

Am I misreading it or or they saying it's tuned for 95ron and that it's only available in Ireland.
Does he mean the 95ron as that is not something I would see as a selling point to be honest.

They are only okay, not quick and not overly nice to live with it

Ron and octane ratings are the same thing so yea basically it's tuned to run most efficiently on 95 ron so go to a texaco and get the premium stuff because circle k is 97/98 :'D
Also easily available in many countries not just ireland

95 is the only one available in Ireland other countries you can get higher octane stuff at the pump.

Is it? Taught miles was supposed to be 97/98, could be wrong. Haven't bought petrol in years due to the joys of high millage.

Either way its not a desirable car by any stretch of the imagination.

Who would choose that over a wrx, evo, s chasis, skyline, m3/m5, 911 hell at that money you're in mk1 escort territory and thats an investment.
