10-12-2018 2:51pmHi,
I have a Denon X4400 currently running in a 7.2.2 setup and want to add another 2 Atmos speakers, but it seems I will need to add an external amp to power the extra 2 speakers. Is there any deals on compatible stereo amp?1

Thanks for the post.
Which way are you thinking of connecting the stereo amp to the Denon to drive the extra 2 Atmos? Which speakers terminals are you already connected to for the 7.2.2 setup?
I'd need to check with Denon to make sure how this would work for Atmos.0 -

Hi Kenny,
There are 2 spaces for the additional Atmos speakers on the AVR. It has the capacity for 11 channels of sound but can only power 9 channels. The plan is to plug the 2 Atmos modules into the AVR as standard and then run a pair of RCA cables from the the AVR to the stereo amp. I believe this is how it is done in such a setup.

Hi Mark,
I'm thinking that the best way to make that work would be to add a Denon or Denon family amp to your 4400 so at least the voicing is similar to your own amp - we start with the Denon PMA50:
https://www.richersounds.ie/p-203394-denon-pma30-stereo-amplifier.aspx
However of course this may be a bit of overkill to power an additional 2 Atmos speakers - if you were happy to compromise the tonal balance ( and get a better amp!) I would look at the Onkyo A9010 which is a super stereo amp at just £199 and if you dp decide to upgrade your AVR at some later date at least you could re-deploy the A9010 to another system and put it to good use:

Many thanks for the reply. This is really only for the rear atmos speakers so I don't think tonal differences will be an issue, and Audassey should mitigate it as well. I was looking for something closer in the £100 range. Would you have anything closer to this?
Thanks,

Our cheapest stereo amp would be the Cambridge Topaz AM1 priced at £89

Next up the Cambridge AM5 priced at £119

Unfortunately there is very little margin on the AM1.
I can offer free shipping on it if that helps any.0 -
