I want to send some presents internationally and I'm going to use the International Courier service with An Post.

Someone told me though that they open the parcels to verify the contents before they will ship. If I have individually gift wrapped presents will they just open everything?

Check on their T&Cs the list of prohibited articles. They will probably X-Ray the parcels at a minimum, rather than open them. If they think there is a prohibited article in it, they will definitely open it.

I've ran through the prohibited list and I'm all good (No mustard gas or works of art). I was told they do this at the post office when you're sending it because once they hand it over it's into a van and off to the airport so they have to verify the contents when they take the package.

Or maybe the person who it happened to just looked a bit dodgy.

They have a gift box you can use if that's any help. Handy for family.
