Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

heater recommendation needed please

    We have underfloor heating usually, however the compressor has gone, and I can't replace it before Xmas.

    can anyone recommend a decent heater that I could maybe use at night that might heat house during day?
    I want to try to take advantage of our night rate electricity if at all possible.

    You would seem to be looking for a a fairly large heater to heat your house so I'm afraid I cant help you there but my own heating system sprung a leak on Christmas Eve a good few years ago and I just utilized 3 oil filled electric heaters, one of which was my own, the other two, borrowed from a relation and a neighbor. They were all the same type with 3 settings.....800W,1200W & 2000W and they kept my house quit reasonably warm for 4 or 5 days, (on 15hrs/day) until I could get at the leak, at a extra electrical consumption of ~
    55/60 Kwh per day. (Cost didn't bother me for a few days).
    One interesting thing I did note was that if the heater(s) was on the max setting of 2000W that (even with the thermostat turned fully up) it would only emit around 1500W as the safety oil stat used to cut it in/out.
    Fan heaters might be a cheaper option if you can't borrow some of the above.

    thanks for that, I have a couple of old halogen heaters running in the bedrooms to keep the chill off.
    have the open fire as well. I think I might pick up a radiator to plug in over night for the living room / kitchen.
    I reckon it could be into the new year before it gets fixed so need to organise something
