Donegal - Upcoming Music Gigs

Starting a thread to help list all upcoming gigs & concerts happening in Donegal.

I've recently moved to Letterkenny and there isn't the biggest selection of music gigs to go to, especially alternative or rock music. The ones that are on don't seem to really get much promotion so I'm hoping this thread might help highlight some of the gigs that are on that you may not have heard about!

Please feel free to add to this thread, all music types accepted. :)

Christy Moore returns to the Clanree Hotel on Friday 10th of May 2019. Mixing the traditional Irish folk sounds with the (then) emerging sounds of rock'n'roll, Christy Moore emerged in the late 1960s as a shining new voice in Irish music. Since then he has carved out an extremely consistent career, both as a solo artist and with his bands, Planxty and Moving Hearts. Credited as a major influence on artists such as U2, The Pogues and Sinead O'Connor.

Tickets €40 available from Hotel Reception
    Doors open @7.00pm
    Show @8.00pm
Unreserved seating, No Support, No Interval

Great idea for a thread OP :)
The theatre in Letterkenny has a fairly eclectic music programme over the next couple of months. Including, Altan, a Strauss gala concert, Kenny Rodgers/Dolly Parton tribute night and the wonderful Eddi Reader.

It's also worth keeping an eye on the Balor in Ballybofey - Damo Dempsey usually plays there at least once a year.. (Derry too, usually) Always a fantastic gig!

Dead Horse Jive, the sharpest rock ‘n’ roll band in Ireland, are embarking on an all-island tour this February in a last-ditch attempt to cross the border as many times as they can before Brexit.

The ‘Hard Rock/Soft Border Tour’ will be stopping in the North, South, East and West of the island, with dates planned in Drogheda (Feb 1st), Cork (2nd) Dublin (15th), Belfast (16th), Derry (22nd), Letterkenny (23rd) and Bantry (Mar 2nd), as well as a triumphant homecoming in Galway on March 14th.

February 23rd is the 2nd Birthday Bash for Disturbance, who have done a great deal in Letterkenny and the surrounding area to support original music in the last two years.

Mick Flannery is widely regarded as one of the finest singer-songwriters to come out of Ireland in recent years.

An award winning- double platinum selling artist, Mick has released five albums to date – including two number ones and received widespread airplay. He became the first Irish musician to ever win awards at the International Songwriting Competition in Nashville, aged 19. His critically acclaimed live performances have seen him sell out shows in Ireland’s Olympia Theatre and Cork Opera House.

    Ticket Price : €22.50

    €18 / €15
Presented By Earagail Arts Festival 2019

Comprising brothers Ian Lynch (uillean pipes, tin whistle, vocals), Daragh Lynch (vocals, guitar) alongside Cormac Mac Diarmada (fiddle) and Radie Peat (harmonium, accordion, vocals), Lankum channel a diverse set of influences and histories to create a beautifully rare thing: a songbook from and for the people. Born of years criss-crossing Dublin’s folk, squat and experimental scenes, their two albums ‘Cold Old Fire’ (2013, recorded under former name Lynched) and Rough Trade debut ‘Between The Earth and Sky’ (2017) breath new life into ancient/modern rituals with urban punk fervour, rural psycho-geography and, underpinning it all, the eternal drone of the uilleann pipes.

Lankum are the type of band you never knew you where searching for. A group of individuals united by a gang mentality whose close vocal harmonies, instrumental interplay and dramatic storytelling pin you to the seat and revive the spirit. They show that folk music can be angry, progressive and is still a vital force today.

Only just noticed this thread, great idea!

For anyone interested in discovering new original acts there’s a monthly night on the first Wednesday of each month in the Balor theatre in Ballybofey called the Ghostlight sessions. The music is usually of a really high standard & has a good mix of local acts & those from around the country. It’s a nice intimate setting & it’s cheap in, id highly recommend it!

Disturbance Festival & Distorted Perspectives ( The Central & Regional Culture Centre)

This looks like it could be a great one day festival for fans of alternative rock in Letterkenny. Really looking forward to it! Info below.

    Saturday July 20th

Distorted Perspectives in partnership with Disturbance present a day-long festival of contemporary international psychedelia, punk and independent music with staggered sets throughout the evenings across two Letterkenny venues.

Headlined by one of Ireland’s finest artists, the intense and hypnotic The Altered Hours are joined by London-based Cowboy Flying Saucer, Donegal’s own Aul Boy, the esoteric anti-pop of The Barbiturates, plus the Distorted Perspectives DJs and visuals by F12 at the Regional Cultural Centre.

Headliners at Disturbance are London’s NWOBHM legends Girlschool, frequently associated with contemporaries Motörhead, alongside top Irish acts such as Junk Drawer, Scally, Wild Rocket and Podracer. Disturbance will host two stages from 2pm through to 2am at The Central and No.58, Letterkenny

Nice to see the Donegal town festival go away from the country stuff this year :pac: last year was a scorcher hope we get the same this year.

A for disturbance fest to pull of a band like Girlschool for Letterkenny it will surely draw in a crowd, looking forward to it.

I wonder what's going to happen regarding the Alabama 3 acoustic set at Oakfest...one of their founding members died very recently.

Big fan of the band, seen them a few times now. He'll be a loss.

They've released a statement today to say that upcoming shows will go on, as it's what The Very Reverend D. Wayne Love would've wanted. I've only seen them once, shortly after Exile... was released. They were brilliant.
