Rogerstown Estuary - nature reserve

There was a piece in the Irish Times (Christmas TV guide) re Rogerstown and nature. I'm not into bird watching, but it said you could see owls at dusk in the winter. I've never seen them and would like to, if possible. Has anyone, and where's a good place to park?

There's a carpark on Turvey Avenue for allotments. if you start from there, and follow the tracks towards the east and north you will eventually get to a hide

But I dunno if the reserve is open at night.

I went for an enjoyable run here a while back, and I used the advertised opening times for the Turvey Allotments as guidance for the car park opening hours: http://www.turveyallotments.com/

If you're on your feet I'm sure you could get in and out of the area without too much difficulty.
