Bah...my corsair k70 is falling apart. Had it 4/5 years now and all the keycaps are breaking. I've lost L, right ctrl, H and the letter beside the windows key in quick succession. Have been selectively replacing them with lesser used keys.

No real question, just ranting :pac:

I spilt a whole cup of tea all over my K 95 2 days ago, I had to give it a shower and dry it out. Luckily it still works. Frustrates me that a Keyboard as expensive as this isn't designed as spill proof. I just got lucky, unplug it ASAP if it ever happens . Anyone else got a lucky liquid damage story?

Looks like they're Cherry switches so plenty of replacement options.

    Here are some Corsair ones

Thanks Titian, have em in the cart. Figure it's as easy buy spares- it's really hard to justify upgrading to a new keyboard when this one is fine aside from the crumbling keys(i'm also deep in the Corsair ecosystem so can't just bail on that..)!!

Jut alarming that they all seem to be cracking at the same time..I've never removed em, so seems to be wear and tear or aggressive typing on my part!!

The plastic could be getting weak after use.

Just don't look on r/MechGroupBuys or you'll go down a rabbit hole and want to buy loads of keycaps, keyboards and deskmats

Edit: if anyone is thinking of something new GMMK are releasing a GMMK Pro in ISO in Q2 this year that's looking excellent.

Yep I knocked a whole cup of coffee a couple weeks ago over a custom tofu 60% I had built just after Christmas, I was like a man possessed ripping it apart to pat down the pcb and dry out any switches. Luckily nothing shorted in the end.

Any pictures of the board? Did you solder it yourself or is it hotswap?

So this one is a DZ60 pcb which was soldered, it's a lot less daunting than it seems to solder tbh and I hadn't touched a soldering iron in about 5 years, and even then before I was fairly brutal with one.

    o8aZnKU_d.webp?maxwidth=640&shape=thumb&fidelity=medium

Have an NK65 that I built as well which is hotswap, and thinking about getting a KBD75 kit to build a 75% board for when we go back to the office at some stage later this year.

It's a rabbit hole I wish I hadn't delved down over quarantine, but it's a hobby more than anything.

Just keep in mind about custom keycaps. Corsair boards have a non standard bottom row apart from that really new expensive board they have out.

I've a Red 60% on HS60 with 67g Zilents. Really nice keyboard but my K needs to be swapped out because it's not registering everytime anymore. Luckily I have one spare switch left!!

Will build a white board and a black one at some stage as I want to get a 65% and maybe a 75% but stock seems sparse at the moment.

Where did you order your parts?

I've a set of KAT Arctic keycaps on order so hoping to have them by the end of the summer.

Got most of my bits from keygem, NK Creams for the 60% or mykeyboard.eu, got GMK keycaps off Drop and then I've picked up a few other sets like epbt from Mechboards UK. I managed to get Healios V2s for the NK65 off of the mechmarket subreddit from a lad in Limerick and I got the NK65 off there for what it retailed at + customs fees off a lad in the UK.

Haven't bothered with any group buy stuff yet, simply because I don't have the patience for any pre-orders, but the prices of some stuff is insane if you don't.

It's an expensive hobby but I'd rather spend €200 on one than a night out :pac:

I like the way the article is written. Really takes the blame off fastway and their outsourced IT and onto those nasty cyber attackers. The definitely didn't f'up and expose their DB to a standard web crawler after upgrading the server.

Yeah, probably left default passwords in place on web-facing database on port 1433 during a migration :pac:

Would like any feedback on this build:

Plan to do some 1440p gaming/streaming. Hoping to carry over my current SSDs

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,309 ✭✭✭✭wotzgoingon

Where is it coming from? If it's from UK you will be charged extra import tax.

Seems alright considering the CPU and GPU are quite difficult to get(the GPU more so).

  • Registered Users Posts: 36,167 ✭✭✭✭ED E

Will they actually have any XTs to sell you?

  • Registered Users Posts: 663 ✭✭✭MidlanderMan

If you pieced it out into individual parts and built yourself, in an ideal world where you could actually get the parts, it would cost a few hundred quid less.

But in this market, if they can deliver promptly, that's not a bad price.

My friend has a Corsair 175R.

I wouldn't recommend it; get a better case with open mesh for airflow.

Seconded, that's the only thing that really stood out to me.

You could probably get a better mobo with onboard wifi instead of the entry level b550 listed + the expansion card too.

It was the ram that jumped out at me (3000 with no latency mentioned). Well that and the "own brand" cooler and ssd, and looking again that wifi card is a bit rubbish. In the current market I guess not saying what model of 6700XT they are putting in is not really the red flag I'd usually make of it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 663 ✭✭✭MidlanderMan

Actually, 32gb is overkill, get 16gb of faster ram instead, the NVMe drive will be grand, don't worry about that, or maybe get a bigger SATA drive and buy your own NVMe drive from amazon as a boot drive?

Scrap the cooler and keep the stock Ryzen cooler, it's more than acceptable for the 5600x.

  • Registered Users Posts: 663 ✭✭✭MidlanderMan

    How about this spec?

Slightly cheaper and will get better performance, you will not need 32gb of ram, and if you do, you can just buy another 2x8 kit of the same sku. I changed the case to a very good airflow focused case too.

Irish site, so the price listed is the price delivered.

They were in stock last I checked.

Exactly, and I'm kinda desperate for an upgrade. This is pretty much the most I'm willing to pay.

Thanks didn't know much about the case it was just the one the site recommended.

Ok I'll upgrade for the wifi. I'm definitely a wired connection guy but there's times when wireless is nice like when moving around or testing.

I think it's just the reference model, no brand as far as I can tell. As for the RAM, which would you recommend?

I'll get faster ram but 32 is not overkill. I don't use SWAP memory and I can cause a system freeze if I don't carefully maintain how many things I'm running. A game + OBS + browser with 30 tabs can easily push 15GB. My college work and hobby activites can eat up ram, too. So yeah I'm completely done with 16GB. Need more.

I was just going to use my current SSDs. They won't sell the computer to me without at least one drive in it though so I chose the cheapest smallest one. Might install the OS on that.

Didn't know, thanks :D Once again that cooler was suggested by them.

Who's the company supplying this? I remember one Irish retailer mentioned on here who were useless by all accounts but I can't remember their names.

PCSpecialist. Should I avoid them? This is the best config I've been able to find :(

    Here's the updated config:
    Ei7oF5y.png

Change to match the above recommendation. WiFi in the mobo and the most expensive RAM they have. This better or still some fine tuning?

Given the options I'd actually stick with the original board, the price difference isn't worth it between the two and the Intel WiFi 6 card listed on their site is only 20 quid anyway, so you could either add that now to have or just used wired. Those TUF b550's are pretty poopie where as the base b550 isn't all that bad tbh.

I'm willing to spend a bit more on it if recommended since it's important right.
