Ordered a couple of ARGB fans to light up my case a bit that supposedly supported MSI's MysticLight along with the other brands versions but nope. It has a 3 pin header while the boards argb headers are 4 pin. Can we standardize the connection at least please. How many is there?

I guess there's no work around to this outside of an adaptor or hub. CBA with a hub for 2 fans when the board has 2 headers and I only need 1 for the 2 fans.

Return them and order argb fans?

Sounds like your motherboard does not have ARGB, just plain old RGB. Or you're looking at the wrong headers.
    Recap:
    1. RGB headers: 4-pin
    2. ARGB headers: 3-pin

It is very important to be distinct, because they run different voltages (12V on RGB, 5V on ARGB), and you'd be burning your stuff if connected to the wrong one.

Please see below the corner of my son's X570. Labeled with 5 is a plain RGB header (4-pin, 12V). Labeled with 8 is an Addressable RGB header (3-pin, 5V).

He has ARGB fans! Returning them will not improve things.

Deepcool RF120s are decent budget fans with 12v RGB connections as opposed to ARGB if you're looking for alternatives.

RGB in general needs to be standardised, software and connections

They are ARGB. They have a 4 pin connection for the adjustable fan speed then 2 other connectors to control and power the ARGB. 1 is a small 3 pin for gigabyte boards and the other is a bigger 3 pin for other boards.

The motherboard does have ARGB. It's The MSI B450 Tomahawk max. It has 2 headers but they are the 4 pin 12v headers rather than the 3 pin 5v headers that the fans are. Both are ARGB from what I've read. Just 1 has more power than the other. I had no idea there were that many different connections before ordering. Just assumed they would work as it said it supported MSI Mystic light.

These were the fans. They were cheap at least. Got them for about £5 each. Got them for lighting more so than cooling. There's already 10 fans in the case.

Atm they are sitting on the backplate of the gpu blowing upwards. I wanted to test if it improved gpu thermals without screwing up the cpu. GPU maxes at around 70c at the lowest 35% fan speed compared to 80c before so it is a significant drop. It also ramped above 35% before. It's happy sitting at 35% now. CPU maxing around 65c at 1100rpm.

For desktop use the gpu fans turn off completely. Also got a nice sleeved power cable extension kit. Would have looked nice with some lighting.

buy from an SI like PC Specialist, better value and they don't use weird non-standard OEM parts so you can replace whatever you want as you wish, they are also better built and have better cooling.

Alienware have a better warranty and supply chain for parts though. Never heard of problems with their cooling either and last i saw build quality was top notch.

Sad times for the PC Building community when the recommendations are turning towards buying Alienware but it really does look like they're coming in cheapest compared to some of the 3080 builds on PC Specialist! :(

Hopefully the good 'ol days wit the fun of a self-build with shiny new parts will be feasible again...at some point...eventually..

I hope so looking like mid 2022 or late before it might go back to normal.I wanted to try build my first pc was also looking at dell and pc specialist but the prices are crazy high not worth it.

I wait till next year have a ps5 and xbox series x so in no rush but would love to get back into pc gaming since games are cheaper.

That the way the market gone a few months ago you pay 3k for a Rtx 3090 Ailenware pc it now 4k plus.

This is the sad state of the market lads.

I had a thread going was going to upgrade, I got a new case, psu and replacement z97 motherboard instead.

I'm going to wait until the end of the year until ddr5 comes out and the new intel cpus, I could have got a 5800x but it runs way too hot for my liking and the 5900x is impossible almost to get a hold of. Plus it wouldn't feel the same upgrading without a new gpu :(

I figure intel will try and bounce back hard given their recent standing vs amd but all speculation of course.

My 5600x and 6900xt build cost less than 2k and has an AIO cooler anda nice airflow focused case.

    The market is ****ed.

I've a 6900 XT also but still rocking a 3700X as I game at 4k so not much difference but there is a bit so I will eventually get either a 5800X or a 5900X if they ever drop down in price sometime next year.

So when building do you guys secure the motherboard to the case first or start building with the board outside?
I have seen arguments for both methods...

Does anyone have the SAMSUNG ODYSSEY LC49G95TSSUXEN?

Be interested to know what's it like playing at Resolution 5120x1440 and do many games support that resolution?

Depends on the type of CPU cooler for me (AIO vs tower) and how easy the case is to build in.

It's easier to fault fine on the table than in a case but I usually just set it up in the case and be done with it.

Quick google tells me loads of games don't work well with a 32:9 aspect ratio.
