Finally bit the bullet and ordered my first full motherboard/CPU/RAM upgrade last weekend. i7 3770K -> R7 5800X
Ordered from amazon.de where it said the 5800X was expected in June, but advice from a friend said that's not a concern so ordered regardless. The next day it said it was expected 20th April. Just gotta survive another weekend of waiting and pray my cooler has all the AM4 bits like it said it did a few years ago.

Gonna have to sit on my 1070 for a loooong time, but I've never been happier to have it in the current climate o_o

The 1070 is still a great GPU. I just sold a GTX970 I inherited from my brother when he built himself a new PC with a 2070S last Summer and even a 970 surprised me when I was testing it after a pre-sale Heatsink cleaning and Thermal Paste re-application. Doom 2016 with all details maxed out on my 3440x1440 34" LG UW was averaging about 60-70 FPS. So unless one is a 'Moaarr Hertz!' whore then even a 970 is still a decent GPU for flat monitor gaming. (a bit long in the tooth for VR gaming nowadays though)

I'm at regular 1440p and it plows through pretty much everything I play just fine. Might be worth looking at the card to re-paste it like you say, I'll check the thermals tonight to see how they look.

Anybody using the bloated piece of crap that is Corsair iCue?

You used to be able to set the hardware lighting, the lights that come on on each device if the iCue service isn't running, I don't see that option in the latest version anymore. Is that just me or have they actually removed that?

Yeah I'm using it to match up the lighting with other stuff as well as my mouse settings. It seems you need to have it running now. It's awful software really.

Damn. Was handy just setting some hardware level lights and then stopping the service.

Razer Synapse has the best lighting incorporation imo.

I'll ask on the Corsair forums. Only last week I asked over there about what happens when shutting down the service and a Corsair Rep told me the Hardware lights and fan profiles stay at whatever default you set for them. I actually like iCUE but it can cause USB issues for VR. On my current PC I manually shut if down while VR'ing but with my new Rig coming which I want to set up as WOL for other family members to be able to Wireless VR and Steam in-home stream from, I'd like to set up a script with task manager that when Oculus Home, MS VR Home or SteamVR is activated iCUE would automatically be shut off.

Nah. Maybe years ago but not the case now.

The right click button on my year old g403 hero is starting to be annoying, I use hold to scope on a few games and when holding it Will flitter in and out and it's starting it piss me off.
Really love the shape and feel of the mouse but the switch fecking up so early is putting me off buying another one.

Anyone any recommendations for a similar sized mouse?

Seems hit and miss no matter what you buy. My corsair M65 elite left click has been dodgey since 6 weeks after buying it. Randomly double clicks on a single press.

Was too lazy to return it. Maybe try Razer if they have sorted their quality out.

I returned my Corsair M65 Elite the same day I received it :pac:

Literally the worst mouse I've ever laid my hands on.

Horrible plastics all around, had a tendency to hit the mat at weird angles, and 1Gb iCUE software, no thanks!
Been rocking a Razer DeathAdder V2 Pro since January.
Looking to maybe replace it for Cooler Master MM731 as it's similar shape but 28g lighter.

I don't think Corsair have made a good mouse in years. As for a G403 replacement @MidlanderMan, maybe give the Xtrfy M4 a look?
Not into Ergo mice myself but might be an option.

If I had any sense I would have done the same. Don't like all these floating plastic panels. Seems to be what's causing the double click issue as well.

Doesn't fit my hand very well either.

Is there anything decent with a bit of a lip to rest your pinky on?

Get on to logitech, they should replace it for you. I've done it a few times even with a mouse that was out of warranty

They don't seem to have any other solutions than replacement.
They sent me a brand new MX Keys, even though the problem I had was with the software.

I'm confused, did you forget to change accounts?

I have no idea what you mean.

Let me expand on my reply, and clear up any confusion:
I own a Logitech MX Keys keyboard, connected to three PCs (two via Universal Connector, and one via Bluetooth). This keyboard has a particularly annoying problem: at times, it stops switching between computers, it gets stuck to PC#3. Turning the keyboard off and back on restores full functionality.

I opened a ticket with Logitech Support, hoping to hear that there's some update to the keyboard firmware that fixes the issue. They chose to send me a brand new MX Keys instead.

So, instead of finding the issue and a fix for it, they are quick to replace a "defective" product.

    CoolerMaster MM720

    Razer Naga series

    Redragon M720 Vampire

    Corsair Dark Core series

Also consider the Microsoft Intellimouse Pro which is a bit wider.

My daily driver, don't like small mice and its really comfortable. Two side buttons is all I ever use in games (grenade + melee or grenade + alt attack, TC + idle in RTS).

I don't want to put up a whole thread, but essentially looking for a gaming PC, but will also be used for streaming and day to day stuff. I want to get a card that will be decent for a few years, but I don't need to run everything at max. 16gb of RAM is required at a minimum.

I'm perfectly capable of upgrading GPUs / RAM, but I have two small kids, and I don't really have time to get into the whole building part so looking at this.

Good value? A decent buy? Are the parts decent? Other than the lack of an SSD, it looks fine to me (and I can do the SSD myself)

I wouldn't use custompc if you value your sanity :D
They have a very bad rep,if you search here I'm sure you will find some posts about them.

Even putting aside their legendary terrible service, no it's pretty awful value.

Dell do an Inspiron G5 starting at around 850-900 with i5-10400F and GTX1660 Super graphics, both of which are much faster than the options in that Custom PC machine. Comes with an M2 SSD as well as standard.

  • Registered Users Posts: 739 ✭✭✭minitrue

That's terrible though not utterly unexpected in the current market!

Ignoring the price for a minute it has a quad core cpu with integrated graphics and a 2 generation old graphics card. A R5 2600 would be much better never mind a 3600 or i5-10400(F)/11400(F).

Can't ignore the price though, a year ago (or less) the cpu was €175ish I think and the gpu €125ish and when you consider it has a no-name 500W psu and A320 board, well that would have been under €600 and maybe as low as €500. Even today you could put together a much much better machine for €500 apart from the graphics card (and with €700 you can get an overpriced good graphics card).

At that sort of price and looking for a prebuilt there's a "ready to go" one from pcspecialist https://www.pcspecialist.ie/computers-for-next-day-delivery/1140/ and just upgrade the ram and be left with change and a much better PC. As you talk about upgrading I'm loathe to point at the Dell's but they would still be much saner purchases then what you linked. You could also get something like a RTX 2060 and i5-10400F based machine with a 1TB SSD from a pcspecialist custom build for the same money (or less if you drop their "expensive" copy of Windows).

Holy crap, they still make those! I remember having the OG IntelliMouse Explorer all the way back in 1999. Was the first "optical" mouse I had, and as a 12 year old I had far too much fun trying to blind myself looking at the light on the bottom.

They brought them back with a top-of-the-line sensor (PixArt PAW 3389) so if the size & weight are up your alley, it's a good recommendation.

Bit the bullet and bought an Alienware from Dell, i realise i was being bent over a barrel but at least i know i'm getting a 3080 at some stage in the next 30 days.

To be honest, prebuild from the likes of Dell / HP is not a bad idea right now, no one would think less of someone going that route.
What did you end up getting? Just curious.

Messed around with Dell's configurator and managed to wrangle 32GB ram instead of 16 for 20 quid less.... makes no sense to me but i wont complain.

Price there is without VAT, with VAT it came to 2614 with a promo code applied.
