Zen 3 and RDNA 2 are suppose to be really good. And then Nvidia should have new cards out sometime this year. And Intel may have new stuff, hopefully on new architecture. If they are still on 14nm+++++++++++++++++++++............. :pac:

I thought Intel just basically refreshing ( renaming and trying to drain the last drop of blood from that silicon ) with these new CPUs. They are really that behind?
I only catching up on current situation in PC market.

Thanks. So it's a bit of hard silicon lottery? AMD cars are some bang for the money now, but they still can't sort out drivers?

Latest drivers fixed most if not all of the issues reported.

The fact that it took them a year to do it, while ignoring the constant complaints on their own support forums, the repeated and constant RMA's to their vendors and only bothered to "invest" in their drivers when the problem finally gained traction in mainstream media is the better question.

I don't like Nvidia either though, they have done their own stupid **** over the years.

To Nvidia defense, they mostly release working products with good driver support. The asshole side of Nvidia is that if they could legally charge you your right kidney and one of your balls for GPU - they would.

AMD is really kicking ass now, and forcing Intel to rethink their pricing. Hopefully it will kick Nvidia back to reality too.

Alright pals went for the Gigabyte 5700XT ("Gaming OC") with the triple fan. Thermals look alright, performance looks good. Went a bit overbudget but kinda needed to to get out of the dodgy card pricerange.

AMD has taken a chunk out of the x86 market, they've done diddly squat when it comes to compute cards. Gamers see AMD taking the two consoles as a win but really its offcuts that nVidia didnt want, much better money selling 1000's of cards to datacentres. Long way from team green being under pressure really.

Nvidia have the same problem as Intel though, just delayed. Infinity fabric is allowing AMD to do things that Nvidia can't, like Unified memory architecture. It's going to allow AMD to scale far greater than Nvidia can.

Are you sure about that Nvidia's past is littered with failed colaberations with other tech companies. A perfect example would be Apple another example would be the xbox.

Hundreds of thousands graphics cards in laptops and desktops dying left right and center while they denied it, springs to my mind.

8800 GTX-gate is a long way in the past now, and HP were just as bad as nV during that.

Not saying they're saints, just that FirePro is yet to really register on anyones radar.

Postman delivered a few bits today so almost ready to do this build. God knows you'd need something to look forward to at the moment

Absolutely love this PSU with the upgraded paracord cables. They really give you so many cables and combs.
The cable kit seems to be around 100 on its own so definitely good value to get them bundled

Had to wait a month for this to get back in stock but it was worth it.

Plenty of the rmx with sheathed cables available but I figured these are as tasty as a custom cable kit so worth the wait. No more pouring over Johnnyguru reviews :D

Sorry if this is the wrong section to post stuff.

Hope everyone is keeping safe and in good health.

Had no idea the current Ryzen mobile processors are so bad. Bought a laptop with a 3550H thinking it would be fine, it's really not. Performance in really CPU heavy games is significantly worse than my "old" 6700HQ. Runs like I'm playing the game on an i5 from 2012, CPU constantly at high usage, stutter, framerate from 30-60 and everything in between. (is fine in non CPU heavy games like COD or Apex)

Kinda gutted, only 3 months old and already have to sell and buy a new one.

The 4000 series mobile is meant to be brilliant.

Did they even sell those in gaming laptops? In general, most reviews state its about 7% behind the intel 8300H, because almost every game is really GPU bound.

As others said, the new gen Ryzen chips at 7nm are slamming any available intel CPU out of the water. But I don't think there are many models/options out there with them.

When I was buying laptop I was toying with idea of that cpu too. It's really cheap, but thanks feck I decided not too. Went with 9750h and 2060 in November. It's still faster then my 2500k 1060 desktop, so I connect laptop to my monitor now instead.
New Ryzen mobile CPUs are fantastic. Almost desktop performance. Very very impressive and apparently not stupidity overpriced too.
Not upset buy pulling the trigger on November thought, my laptop still performs great and will for a while, but when I will decide to upgrade, Ryzen is the way to go.

Guys do you know of anywhere to buy sample keyboard switches? Thinking of getting a smaller keyboard for my desk and want to a few switches before I decide on anything.

Had thought about building my own keyboard but costs seemed to be a bit on the high side so I've shelved that idea.

I'm pretty sure Amazon do some.

Edit: Yeah, they have a few sets.

Thanks for that. For some reason when I was looking at the first one in the link above earlier I thought it was just the plastic holder.

There used to be a switch tester doing the rounds on this forum a few years back. As in someone would try it and send it on to the next fella. I do not know if who ever last ended up with it is still active on here.

Ah I don't mind buying it. If anyone wants it when I'm done we can start that up again and I'll donate my one.

How's it going lads. All this being cooped up at home has me considering getting a machine to try to make a dent in my steam library. Would have to be a laptop as don't have the room for a desktop at the moment. Think I've seen pcspecialist mentioned as a decent option for customisable laptops, any suggestions as to what GPU and CPU in particular I should be looking at? Any particular laptops that are better for cooling/noise?

Hold your horses until Ryzen 4000 mobile chips are available - they're absolute beasts, as good as desktop.

Rollout of them is slowed due to COVID-19.

I have one. If you want to PM me your address I can post it out to you. (certified Corona free!).

    It has:
Blue - clicky, with a tactile "bump" in the keypress
Brown - Like blues, but no audible "click"
Red - Linear, no real noise or bump
    Green - Heavier blue
    White - Heavier brown
    Black - Heavier red
