That guy looked old in 2000. Can't believe he's still going.

They'll probably bring the son Brian in as well.

Always hated him (Brian) as a ref with his over the top mannerisms.

A good referee shouldn't be noticed.

He was doing the Crockett Cup for the NWA recently, I swear he was nearly doing a dance move every time he called for the bell. It was so cringy.

Speaking of annoying ref habits, I noticed Mike Chioda doing the devil horns hand gesture to the timekeeper before to signal a two count and it annoys me.

All Elite Wrestling (AEW), announced a partnership with ITV. The broadcaster is to air Double Or Nothing from Las Vegas, which will include headline matches featuring Kenny Omega and Chris Jericho, among several others. It will air live pay-per-view on the broadcaster's Box Office channel from May 25. A pre-event show “Before the Bell” will air for free on ITV4.

He got the huff in WWE after they had Enzo beat him and now there is "creative differences" here.

This company could be a runaway train if they can't keep egos in check.

The problem with using talent from other promotions is that some might consider where they work.
It's obvious if he hadn't lost in Rev Pro he likely wants to lose to a Dragon Gate talent as god knows that they needed a boost when he signed. Kinda surprised he wasn't booked to go over as I'd be building to him vs Omega tbh.
With no Ibushi on sight that's the obvious match to make.

Hopefully as it was one of the matches I was looking forward to but I don’t think it would be in the observer if not somewhat true also if it’s storyline it doesn’t make much sense

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,808 ✭✭✭Sirsok

Would make sense if ya wanted to bring Moxley in with a major pop and play of Pac being a bastard...

Hope it is not a storyline anyway because that kayfabe breaking the fourth wall doesn't work imo

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,240 ✭✭✭ThePott

Should be of note that Page showed up in Nottingham tonight to wrestle Pac and at the end Pac beat him down with a chair and apparently said something to the tune of, I don't need to come to Double or Nothing now.

So could be a work. Then again it is the Observer saying it.

PAC was one of the guys I was most excited to seeing at a top level, so thats a bummer.

I know there's some who'll run to "PAC is difficult to work with", but the fact they flew Page out to the UK and did an angle would make me think there's not a massive amount of bad blood there.

Some speculation is that it was Dragon Gate who objected to a finish of Page (who, being honest, is a relative unknown outside the hardcore circle) beating their champion, and pulled the plug on the match. Which sucks for everyone involved, but I guess they are seeing why the likes of WWE demand exclusivity.

I don’t know why they just don’t have pac win seems a bit strange if the story is true. Seen a lot of talk it’s really visa issues and that creative differences are a cover.

Doesn’t make much sense as this was announced 4 months ago so surely they’d have it sorted by now.

Summary of Meltzer’s take (and given he’s close to the Bucks, I’d take this as close to gospel). Taken from Reddit.

    ====

It was indeed a DG Title issue

They did a 15 minute match in England, in post match angle PAC said he wont be coming to AEW. This was done to write him off for the next little while

AEW didnt just want to cancel the match outright so they did the match in England that will be released this week.

Dave speculates he wont be back until he drops that title

AEW didnt want to do a DQ finish because they want wins/loses on their PPVs.

They didnt want to do a time limit draw for 2 reasons. Time issues as well as previous draw finishes involving PAC in UK have been booed (Notably Ospreay vs PAC). They want this show to be near perfect and dont want the fans to boo.

Issue wasnt just this show, PAC refusing to lose would **** up their long term plan and they had to change things. Hence why he thinks they wont use him.

(Now this next part was explained poorly so I'm gonna try to do my best).

They want win/loses to matter, even if they were going to put PAC over here, if the wins/loses matter logically he'd be in a title match or some type of big match against a guy like Omega or equivalent at All In 2. Lets say they want PAC to lose here but then they cant because he refuses to lose while champ. Dave speculates that this was indeed the plan due to the 6 man tag booked at Jacksonville show.

(To me it does sound like PAC was going to go over here and then in a program vs Omega and lose to Omega, if anyone else listened feel free to correct me on this).
AEW says they have a better match planned, Dave says if they deliver everyone will forget this happened, if they don't they'll get criticized.

Dave says there's the argument that fans want the match that was advertised vs AEWs decision of doing what they think is best long term.

AEW is to be rated TV-14, the same as WWE was during the Attitute Era.

The winner of the Battle Royal will face the winner of Omega/Jericho at a later date to become the first AEW world champion. Unless they're going for some fairly left-field entry from the Battle Royal it makes it pretty obvious who the guest entrant is going to be.

has to be ambrose im guessing theyll save the world title match for the 1st tv taping well thats how id do it.

although battle royal on the preshow i mean a huge surprise maybe not the best way to do it unless the suprise goes on to fight page replacing pac cause theres no one in the battle royal id put up againist kenny/jericho so far

i do think it will be jericho as i think TNT might want him as i thought he was pushed more predominately than elite

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,240 ✭✭✭ThePott

Am I wrong or was Meltzer saying they had a great replacement for Pac lined up?
I haven't seen any confirmation that Page still has a match though. So he could conceivably be in the Battle Royal too, right?
I'm guessing everyone expects Moxley for the Battle Royal.

Not fully on board with the card here but hoping for the best

honestly cant think of anyone not contracted to a company except for moxley (still getting used to that) or punk which is highly unlikely but i think youd be foolish not to advertise punk. So unless theyve come to agreement with new japan for someone i really dont know

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,611 ✭✭✭✭ERG89

Can see the replacement being Joey Ryan. They essentially set up the match at All In. He's probably about as famous in the US as PAC is now.

Any chance of AEW signing Cm Punk ?

Might get some people on the fence to buy the ppv if he shows up preshow

ITV Wrestling on YouTube could be worth a sub going forward.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,689 ✭✭✭sky88

So are people going to buy this the weekend going to give it a miss live but will watch if i hear any of the matches are amazing.

main reason is i just cant buy one-off ppvs if the card isnt doing much for me personally theyll all be good matches but ive seen the majority before so unless it gets unreal reviews.

No interest. The Elite guys and girl just don't appeal to me at all. There's a smarminess to them that I don't like.

If they signed Ambrose and Punk it would raise my eyebrows and I would probably check it out in the future though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,643 ✭✭✭RollieFingers

Going to order it on Fite, I think 17.95 is reasonable, although Bucks vs Luchas is the only match I really want to see. Happy to support a genuine alternative to WWE, for the first few shows anyways, see how they get on.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,240 ✭✭✭ThePott

I do think as well though that debuting a signing as big as Ambrose on a free Battle Royal wouldn't be a great call. Surely you want to make a bigger deal of him than that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,301 ✭✭✭✭gerrybbadd

I'm headed away on holidays tomorrow, otherwise i'd seriously consider buying the PPV.

If it helps them get a start, and they present a genuine alternative to WWE, i'm all over it.

i really think in the grander scheme of things the ppv is important but that 1st month of tv will decide if there an alternative. Ill be honest i find it really hard to judge how there going to do like youtube wise numbers arent great considering thats worldwide views. Youd be more worried TNT dont give them time to find there feet if ratings are low. i seen TNT usually gains over a million viewers in primetime so itll be tough but hopefully they do it as wrestling needs it

I do think it has a reek of a smark promotion but will give them the benefit of the doubt for the first year and so.

Be interesting to see what type of product they put out and how they present themselves on tv.

The biggest smark promotion in the world is the WWE itself.

According to Jericho and Meltzer the weekly AEW weekly show will be on ITV 4. It will be a 2 hour show that they hope to broadcast live & they will announce it officially when they decide if will be filmed on a Tuesday or Wednesday.

Yeah October 4th is the first FOX show, I don't know when the AEW show will start though.

Also Cody says they have 6 months to a year's worth of storylines ready to go and there will be no house shows just the weekly show and ppv's.
