So what's actually going on? Limerick FC granted a licence? Is this on the basis of them amalgamating with the new Limerick utd or what?

No Limerick FC are allowed to apply for a licence now, can still be turned down for a licence but that can make things even messier. Basically Noel Mooney ****ed up by telling Pat that Limerick FC won't get a licence, rather than just keeping his mouth closed and letting the FAI denying there licence application when they applied. Could be a scenario this season with Limerick United Vs Limerick FC in the underage.

Initially the FAI told them they couldn't apply for a licence. Limerick FC appealed that, as the FAI can't really stop them from applying.

Still doesn't mean that the FAI will grant the licence though.

Limerick FC basically want the people and momentum behind Limerick United to join up with Limerick FC, in the hope that they can keep the whole show on the road.

Think at this stage the FAI will just give them the licence and be done with anymore trips to court. You can be sure there's other clubs that don't meet criteria that's needed for a licence, and if they now deny them a licence you'll have Pat back in the courts saying the FAI are just saying no because they were forced to let us apply.

Having a home ground would be the main thing stopping Limerick FC getting a licence I think, but Cabo play out of a rugby ground so he's got plenty of options to ask for somewhere to play. Or even ask any of the Desmond teams could the underage be based from their ground and just enter underage teams. Probably big concerns now that the first division won't kick off on time.

i heard the LDSL told their players not to go to the Limerick United under age trials which were held last week! That is terrible carry on, not allowing players to try and better themselves

From what I heard there was rumours of players being approached before any trials and that the LDSL have tried to make contact with Limerick Utd but have not received any response. Which ever way you cut it, it's not a good start regardless.

Sure you only need to look at whose the secretary for the LDSL and then you've the other gowl involved with junior football there too. Same person was the one who informed others about Tosi being unregistered to play Munster Senior Cup because a schoolboy meeting was cancelled as it clashed with a Limerick FC game.

    From Independent.ie

Stun gun and €20k cash seized following raid targeting League of Ireland footballer

Fraud squad detectives today carried out three searches and seized €20,000 in cash in an operation targeting a League of Ireland footballer.

Documentary evidence, including evidence of betting, mobile phones, electronic devices and a stun gun, was also seized.

The raids are part of a major match-fixing investigation into Limerick FC, which first emerged in 2019 and centres on two football games.

Officers from the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau (GNECB) carried out the operation in Co Limerick in which the home of the player and two of his relatives were raided.
    No arrests were made.

More searches are expected in the coming weeks as the GNECB continues its probe and arrests are likely.

This month Limerick FC launched High Court proceedings against the FAI over the club's alleged exclusion from the League of Ireland.

The proceedings concern the FAI's alleged failure to invite Limerick FC to apply for a licence to allow it play in the League of Ireland First Division during the 2020 season.

Last September it emerged that mobile phones held by Limerick FC players were seized during a search by gardai investigating suspected match-fixing in a game the club played against Shelbourne last April.

The operation during a training session by the club at the Hogan Park grounds in Rathbane in Limerick, was carried out by the GNECB along with local gardai.

A few days later, the High Court confirmed the appointment of an examiner to the troubled club in a process that later failed.

The application was opposed by Revenue Commissioners, which is a creditor of the company.

Revenue argued that the application for examinership should be refused on grounds including that the club is not commercially viable.

Revenue claimed that there were issues about the club getting a licence to play in the League Of Ireland, and that it would not get the tax-clearance certificate needed to get a licence.

It also cited a continuing investigation into match-fixing by gardai, the fall in ticket sales, and that the club’s main sponsor had gone into liquidation, as other reasons that the club should not be allowed enter examinership.

The slow-motion train wreck that is Limerick FC rolls on.

Now that Limerick Treaty United have been put to sleep, the question remains as to whether Limerick FC will get a licence or not. This was scheduled to be announced yesterday but was not, with rumours that as many as 6 clubs have been advised to refine and resubmit their applications.

There remains the massive question of what Limerick would actually do with a licence, as they have no players, no coaches, so staff or structure of any kind, and I'm not even sure if the Market's Field is available for next season.

Pat approached the District league regarding the use of Jackman Park

Hopefully they're told get lost. Would rather never to have senior football in Limerick ever again over this lot being allowed keep the circus on the go and any parent that sends their kid into Limerick FC would need to have their head checked.

I can appreciate o sullivan doesn’t want the club or players ripped out from under him. Debts are paid, let the wheels roll on for another season until the inevitable collapse, it’s o Sullivan’s money, it’ll be a team of amateurs getting Hockied

It's official now, 2020 First Division licences have been announced, and Limerick are not among the teams listed.

Apparently, after fighting for the right to apply, they didn't apply at all.

Disappointed there will be no LoI football in markets field this year, was a good evening out on a Friday ...

    I enjoy many a game ...

I'm from Galway and support Galway but I live in Limerick and followed them regularly when they played at home ... Not when Galway came to town tho..

    Hopefully in the near future

Still hard to believe it is gone and no football for the year. Is there likely to be anything up and running with a license for next season?

Yes, Treaty United announced last night they'll be seeking a licence for next season's first division.

So going to 'express their interest' in applying for a license.
Hopefully, they get this going. Was only talking with someone last night about if they had heard if any progress was being made.

Can't see there being an issue this season with the licence. Weren't they given a licence last year to enter underage teams but stepped back when Pat and Limerick FC were threatening lawsuits against the FAI. Something to do with Noel Mooney and trying to stop Limerick FC from even being able to apply for a licence.

You'd imagine so. Limerick FC still has underage LOI teams.

Yes, today's Irish Times (behind paywall) says that there have been 2 expressions of interest in the license from Limerick - one from Treaty United and one from Pat O'Sullivan.

Anybody got any idea how this is likely to play out?

If he does apply for a licence I assume he'll be refused. If Noel Mooney hadn't acted the geebag last time then Pat wouldn't have had his day in court and the FAI could have refused him a licence if he actually applied.

Really fear Pat will act the gowl and try and stop treaty if he can't get his team in

How can he possibly stop them. Last year was because of Mooney's incompetence in telling Pat he wasn't allowed apply for a licence instead of letting him apply and refusing then. At least Treaty would have remained in the underage leagues, and feel they only pulled out because of all the publicity it was getting in the papers with Pat taking the FAI to court.
