Hill farm here. Lamb outside all of April. Works well. All hill sheep so in general they look after themselves. Sell mostly as stores in Sept but kept a few this yr and hopin to have them finished. Costs are lower but prices at the end are much lower. For a hill to store system.

Started wondering about it for crossbred sheep, lamb in may or early June with no meal and plenty of grass for both ewe and lamb to get started.
Sell lambs when price starts to rise around this time of year. I think it would neeed good grass management throughout the winter but is something to think about

Lamb in April, once late April, good dog essential, move on to fresh fields morning and evening as they lamb to prevent mismothering, spread out freshly lambed ewes in 4 or 5 different fields each day, pick a well fenced, well sheltered field, and a try not to shear too early in the year.

Was thinking of buying cull ewes and sponging them to lamb in April if the price is feasible. Would mountainy type work on lowland with stubble turnips? Thinking charlaois ram as lambs are small.

I thought it would be the right thing to do. I'm working but would be able to see them twice per day. I'm understocked and trying to build up the owl place.

Cull ewes could be short of teeth for grazing turnips, concentrate feeding would work betterr

I meant kale or rape. I've lambs on beet tops and they're flying it.
