F2000 2.4G WiFi issues

I've an F2000 with nearly 2 years and never really had any issues however the last few weeks there seems to be an issue with devices connecting to the 2,4G signal.
I usually have about 16 wifi devices connected and then 5 more through LAN through a switch off the LAN 4 1GB port.
There's been a new iphone, ipad and smartwatch(wifi one) come into the house the last few weeks and these seem to be the issue,as they come and go from the house it seems like whichever grabs on to the wifi first when they come back gets connected and the other devices wont connect.

Theoretically the router should handle 200+ devices, however,I have limited the IP range for 100 devices myself,I've reset the router, changed channels, changed bands, changed the lease times for the server as they were at 72 hours and it still seems its the last devices that i try and connect say "unable to join network" 5G is working no problem as are Ethernet connected devices.

Firmware version ends in "50" so it seems an update has been done at some point as i believe it was version "35" or "36" the last time i had checked.

I have started a thread in another forum and I  don't seem to be the only one with the issue
Can you confirm if there was a firmware update and when it was rolled out ?

I am also experiencing the same issues that clintondaly is experiencing . My issues started occuring just before Christmas and have continued since.

My wifi is the exact same, was told to contact chat who never seem to reply... other option is 1890 number which i am not going to ring because i will be charged no.1, no. 2, my dealings in the past with eir customer service centres has been atrocious to say the least

    Hi there clintondaly,

I completely understand your frustration, however, I'm afraid I am not aware of any such updates for the F2000.

I would suggest that you contact a member of our Technical Support team either via webchat by clicking here or call them on 1890 260 260.

I'm sorry I don't have better news for you.

Is there a landline or free number to contact tech support, why should I pay for a call that I'll prob not get a resolution with.. Your customer service team in the call centre are basic in there knowledge to be fair..

After spending over an hour on chat I got no where, only to be told my signal was going to be remotely boosted and there must be an issue with the device I am connecting despite clarifying several times it can happen any device at any time.

May I ask a very simple question as it couldn't be answered on the chat

On the F2000 Router does the 2.4G Wifi have a limit on the amount of active simultaneous device connections ?

Unfortunately, there is no other direct number for our Technical Support team. Therefore, you can either speak to a member of the team via webchat by clicking here or you could call our Customer Care department on 1901 where they may be able to assist you further.

We are experiencing a high volume of calls at the moment, this is affecting all departments and leading to longer than usual call waiting times. For more information on this please click here.

The F2000 2.4G WiFi works best with 5 devices connected simultaneously. However, it can connect to more than but the speed does begin to decrease.

    Hi Kellie,

Thanks for the response,on that basis the F2000 is not really fit for purpose anymore so given that we have the whole smart home now trying to connect etc.
Does Eir have better model available ?
Does Eir plan to have a better unit available ?,the reason I ask is because we have another thread going on here in Boards and it seems lots of people are starting to encounter issues with regards max amount of connections etc. as a lot of houses got new smart home gadgets and its now starting to show the limitations of the F2000.
I now find myself in the position as an Eir customer who will have to buy my own router or move to a provider who can provide a unit that will work within my home.

I really think this is an issue that needs to be taken seriously by Eir or you will see customers start to leave, to be honest.

    Thanks

    Clinton

    Hi Clinton,

Unfortunately, that would be our latest model and I am unaware of any new models being released.

It may be of your benefit for you to contact our Technical support team on 1890 260 260 or chat with an agent via webchat by clicking here. They would be able t assist you further by going into more details. They may be able to suggest other avenues that will be of assistance for you.

I'm sorry that I couldn't be of more help to you today.

Same exact issue, started last few months and getting very annoying. Anyone find a solution?

Clifdencolm, I had the same issue, but as far as I can tell it's simply a limitation of the F2000 modem.

After I bought a router it solved everything.

See also my reply to a similar thread.

Hey Patton, can I ask what your tech level is that you're comfortable with?

I bought a TP-link archer C50 AC1200 (v4) router for 50 euros, and it solved all my Wi-Fi problems. Basically, the router handles WiFi connection to your devices, and then passes the traffic through an ethernet cable to the Eir modem/router.

I installed OpenWRT on it to increase stability and performance, but I'd describe the required technical level how to do that as moderate difficulty.

The limitation placed on the F2000 modem is that there can only be a max of 16 wifi devices connected to each of the 2.4 and 5 Bands ,I got around this by installing ethernet cables and a gigaswitch and reducing the number of wifi connections.

Can I ask: 16 devices in total, or 16 devices simultaneously connected?

I'm living in a house with a few others, and we noticed our internet speeds went to almost nothing with about 7 simultaneously connected devices.
The landlord even upgraded our internet plan because the assumption was that we were just using it all up.

I'm just glad I found these boards and found our troubles were due to the F2000. I strongly recommend Eir making it clearer when they sell their plans what the limitations are of the F2000 and it shouldn't be used in a household of >3 persons, because to be perfectly frank I thought their internet service was just bad, while it was entirely due to the F2000.

Now I'm using a router the internet is so much better.

Its 16 on the 2.4 band and another 16 on the 5 band
