3 points clear. No room for error now, maybe thats what we need. If it is pressure, which I dont think it is, its a really bad sign with a 1/3 of the season to go. Plenty of football to go. Need Trent back ASAP, that balace is crucial....even Lovren would improve us at CB....lack of goals from anyone outside the front three too. Plenty of problems but I back Klopp to sort them.

Disappointing to see so many write off a team thats been amazing this season but thats fickle football fans for ya.

    Very true.

We miss a creative midfielder to make a killer pass against packed defences or score from distance...Coutinho would be ideal at the moment but then again we mightn't have had the money to get VVD if Phil wasn't sold to Barca.

When Coutinho was with Liverpool he was not very good at doing that in tight games like tonight

Totally agree. His 2nd half performance was his best so far. Hopefully this will boost his confidence and we'll see more of this in the future.

City have an easier run-in than we do. If I was putting money down now I certainly wouldn't be putting it on Liverpool.

We've 7 home games, of which 3 are against Wolves, Chelsea and Spurs

We've 6 away games, of which 2 are against Utd and Everton.

6 of those games are against the current bottom 6.

I don't really see any way you can paint them as having the easier fixtures.
They also have at a minimum, 2 extra cup fixtures in that run, including the League Cup final against Chelsea at the end of the month.

    And?

We've won 2 of our last 5 games. Tonight we only got a point thanks to a dodgy offside. Against Leicester we were hopeless. We conceded three at home to Palace.

There is no point in us acting the ostrich, our form is poor. We've hit a spell where we are really struggling, if it doesn't get fixed right away we can forget about a title. Not really sure how it's negative to point that out.

We're 3 pts clear at top of the league with a lot of tough games now out of the way, and we're talking like we are 10 adrift and out of the title race.
    Weird!

Might have something to do with us being so disjointed atm unless that changes in the meantime by getting important players back otherwise how could you have confidence in lifting the title, come on be realistic rather than seeing 3pts clear in early February?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,454 ✭✭✭Blondie919

Seriously, the amount of posters on here who've given in already is staggering. Yes, Liverpool have been playing crap lately but there's still only one team that have beaten them. We're missing a lot of players through injury. We're drawing when we "should" be winning. But, we are still 3 clear at the top. Still have the best defence in the league.

Our nearest rivals are dropping points while only having a small handful of players missing. City are not the same scary City from last season. Liverpool sure as hell are not scared of them. Why the hell should the fans? Screw this! I'm not giving in when there's still 13 games to go.

Firmino was like an extra man for West Ham tonight. Might have been his worst game for Liverpool. Broke up countless attacks.

    This.

Was quiet enough in the first half (not terrible IMHO as some would suggest) was the one shining light, along with Mane, in the second half. Really tried to drive us in and increase the pace of the passing. It didn't always work, and at times it looked like he was nearly trying too hard, but I thought he was excellent, and nearly pulled a rabbit out of the hat at the end, only for Origi to fluff his lines. Hopefully, he takes confidence from this and drives on from here.

Overall, we weren't great, moved the ball too slowly again and were very narrow. I wonder if we were better with Fab at RB with even Milner in midfield?

Well when people talk about current form it is fair to say they never, ever, ever mean the result of every single game in the entire season.

Results in September, October, November have absolutely zero relevance when talking about "current form".

He scored lots of long range goals though.

What was the story with all the posts about Henderson during the match? Serious vendetta going on there, he wasn't even in the squad and yet is getting slated, I can assure you he could not have been worse than what was out there tonight.

Regards the match tonight, horrific display, we could do with the heimlich manouevre right now becasue we are choking big time, just showing no bottle when we looked to have the league almost in our grasp. I don't know what's happening at the back but defending set pieces is gone to shyte.

Keita did improve in the 2nd half, Mane was decent but the rest were pretty poor with a special mention to Firmino, he was playing as if he was drunk tonight, games like that I wish we had a decent back up to him. Squad is just too thin. If we don't beat Bornemouth next up we may as well forget about it.

Still very much in Liverpools hands they need a kick up the backside and hopefully Trent is back soon as no body is really out the right and really need Milners experience back in the middle to get back to 4-3-3 again

It's also shown that, in reality, we've fúck all on the bench.

Origi did well as did Lallana. They're two good options to have now.

It's sad that injuries are costing us so dearly at a crucial time. Like Keita can't really perform the disciplined role he's been asked to but you can see flashes of his class when the shackles are off.

It's madness that we've only lost once in 25 games in spite of all that yet our own fans are fuelling the bottle job narrative.

I'm ready to enjoy the scrap anyway.

Every team has injuries. It's about having the cover. We don't. Maybe went one season too far with milner. Our form is shocking, there's always hope. But if we can't raise ourselves for this match I give up.

Firmino and his pissy tippy tappy one-touch football giving the ball away time & time again. This is nothing new. Mane V Palace same thing, ball away goal. Robertson v Leicester & now Firmino Mane again lazy in possession and a goal.

Plenty twists & turns to come yet

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,503 ✭✭✭✭martyos121

Should be beating Bournemouth at Anfield this weekend, then we have 10 days rest before Bayern and we’ll definitely have at least a couple back from injury at that point. With VVD suspended for that match, he’ll have 15 days rest before facing United away, so he should be in much better shape than he’s looked in the last couple of games. That’ll be our biggest game of the season, and how we get on there will tell us a lot more about our title chances than a scrappy draw away to West Ham missing half our defence and two of our three best midfielders.

Still absolutely loving this season, the doom merchants won’t bring me down to their level.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,489 ✭✭✭✭BorneTobyWilde

Game would be 0-0 wit VAR
    Both goals were wrong
Origi was the chance, had more time than he thought, a cool Salah in there and we'd have won.

We were always going to hit a tough patch, we were ridiculously consistent up till the Leicester game. Injuries have upset the balance of the side, keita and shaqiri can't do what hendo and gini do.

We need a couple of bodies back, give a good performance and win against Bournemouth and stop the slide. Can't be thinking about United away, we have to get 3 points Saturday.

You can argue stuff like dodgy off-sides all day. West Ham hadn't scored then so it would have been a different game.

A week ago we were looking at going 7 clear but we have had 2 disappointing draws.
We could also have lost the games as well but we didn't so that is positive.

I'm not accepting after a brilliant first 20 games of winning 17 and drawing 3 that we're in a crisis.
We could not expect that form to keep going all season.

Win the next game and everything will be different.

The lack of pace, we are moving the ball sideways and backwards. It's all very ponderous.

We aren't creating many chances either, and our frees are poor as well.

Seriously disappointing results for 2 games they should have boxed off easily and given them a cushion before the points that will inevitably be lost against Spurs, United, Chelsea and probably Everton. Don't know how anyone can argue that they're doing OK to come away with a point against struggling teams in the bottom half - they're a shadow of the team that we saw before Christmas. Mane did well these last two games thankfully, Salah didn't make any impact whatsoever and Bobby was dire. Rafa and Newcastle did us a massive favour and gave them a huge opportunity but of course they completely fucked it taking 2 points from a possible 6. Hard to watch.

Bad performance, again, without a doubt. But the doom and gloom is a bit excessive. We've played badly in last 3 games and got 5 out of 9 points, not the form of champions, but not disastrous considering how poorly we've played.

A point tonight is not a good return, but better than being beaten, which we've managed to avoid in 3 poor performances. Personally would be happy for City to go top on Wed, have all the doom merchants say they have the League in the bag. We are in the middle of a slump, was always going to happen over 38 games, but now need to respond and Bournemouth at weekend is perfect opportunity. Have supported Liverpool for 40+ years, no need for panic, this remains as good an opportunity as we have had for some time.

Hopefully see the much maligned Hendo (badly missed tonight) and Gini back. Think Keita did well tonight, after ropey first half, and that will stand to him. Need him further up pitch with 2 of Fab, Hendo and Gini behind him.

Is this the same Salah that scored against Bournemouth (3 games ago) and twice against Palace (2 games ago)? You think Salah is off form?

The fu¢k was alisson at with West ham's goal, terrible positioning. Also lucky that his dodgy headed clearance only fell to Andy Carroll, otherwise could have conceded.

Salah isn't off form it's just Klopp is shunting him around the pitch, totally different player in the 2nd half when he moved out wide.
Firmino on the other hand was only missing an own goal to cap a woeful performance. His touch and passing was just lazy and every attack broke down when he got the ball.

Alisson's positioning for the goal was good. It was inch perfect in off the post. He had the rest covered.

Yeah don't think he did much wrong for the goal. It went in off the inside of the post.

He did however have another dodgy kick. Seems like there's at least one every game now.

Brutal tonight. I feared that performance and it happened. The only consolation was we got a point more than i feared we would.

More twists and turns to occur, we're in a title race folks. Enjoy it.

The keeper has been dodgy on a few occasions so far into his Liverpool career and I think he's made probably 3 or 4 bad clearances in the last two games but he's still by far a better keeper than those other two.

Thankfully his errors in the last two hasn't resulted in goals and just keep in mind what he does add to the team.
