Hallett on eurosport said Ding intends to get married in the crucible. Has it booked he said. Bit corny eh!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Am sure I have heard ding refer to his partner as his wife in recent interviews, maybe I picked it up wrong. But I like the attitude he’s showing this past while, looking like the whole weight of the world isn’t resting on his shoulders anymore.

I thought Ding got married in 2014. They had their first child, a baby girl, last August.

Could be renewal of vows or something like that, does sound bit of a tall story to be frank but anything is possible at the same time.

Giving Brian from Coventry wedding ideas there.

I see Brian is back in the front row here with his different Coventry shirts each session. Hearn didn't extend the football shirt ban to the Masters anyhow.

Yes he always looked somewhat uptight. I don't know if that's the Chinese way or his particular personality but he does look more relaxed of late for sure.

That had to be a push shot all the time whether you could actually see it or not. Second one today imo. Day coincidentally with a blue into the same pocket.

That escape from bracel was excellent. Did he really mean to get it back in that close to the yellow though, or was he just trying to get it close to the cushion as he could.

    Bit of a shocker that...

Unreal. Ding forfeits the frame after three misses.

Wow, I can’t believe Ding lost that frame on the three miss rule. He couldn’t have left much on there by putting a bit more power into it!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,551 ✭✭✭AllForIt

What a silly mistake. It's not like the reds were all on and straightforward to clear up.

    U DINGbat,just the 3or4 time I've ever seen that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Should have hit it but I don’t think you take the risk in that situation. Reckless in the extreme.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,325 ✭✭✭xi5yvm0owc1s2b

Some booing from the audience there.

Some booing from the audience there.

I don’t think so. I think it was the crowd saying Luuuuuuuca. Like the way they do for one of the golfers

Some booing from the audience there.

Nah it was the Brecel fans saying "LUUUUUCA" like Springsteen fans say "BRUUUUCE"

    Brecel gets the first chance...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,551 ✭✭✭AllForIt

I was just going to say that you would fancy Ding if he keeps it tight but he didn't by going for that double that can always possibly go wrong which it did.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,325 ✭✭✭xi5yvm0owc1s2b

What a miss on the red by Brecel

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,095 ✭✭✭✭omb0wyn5ehpij9

    Can’t see Ding losing now

Tough game, brecel going to have to go off and stew on that missed red for the next few weeks.

Cost him the match. He won't forget that miss for a long time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

The way he rushed his last shot was strange too, was sure he was going to come up off the shot and steady himself but just stayed down, pulled trigger and missed. Definitely talented but remains a work in progress does luca.

1pm: Mark Selby vs Judd Trump

7pm: Barry Hawkins vs Neil Robertson

Poor start from both, very nervy, several chances spurned already.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Can’t have some of judds shot choices here, should have put that last one back if wasn’t going to take on the red.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,325 ✭✭✭xi5yvm0owc1s2b

Tough situation here with the black over the corner pocket.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,325 ✭✭✭xi5yvm0owc1s2b

Trump leading 3-1 at the midsession interval.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,275 ✭✭✭✭The Nal

Christ 5-1 Trump. Playing great stuff. Selby looks all over the shop.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Going to be 2-5 but for bad slice of luck could have been all over. Worst I’ve seen Selby play since god knows when.

Very poor from Selby today. He looks miserable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

It’s not there today and overall hasn’t been great season for him. Hard to know what he’s going to do rest of season, kind of player that makes you look silly when you dare to write him off!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Trump still leaving door open though, nearly did the same against wilson the other day. Ruthless touch still seems to be missing.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,325 ✭✭✭xi5yvm0owc1s2b

He surely has to be vulnerable to losing his World #1 spot soon.

If he had that killer instinct, he’d rival the very best. Bags of talent, but not quite ruthless enough on the baize still. Though he’s definitely improved from what I’ve seen this week. Bracelet impressed me too, and while still very raw, has real potential.

Bracelet :-) I know who you mean, got time on his side but a lot to learn about matchplay snooker I think.

Judd just isn’t clinical enough. Making heavy weather out of both matches here this week, ronnie would be half way home to essex by now, that’s big difference between them I think.

Trump goes through 6-2. Luck wasn't on Selby's side in that last frame.

Lovely blue to finish. Just crept in.

Robertson and Hawkins getting underway here now with the winner to play Trump tomorrow.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,325 ✭✭✭xi5yvm0owc1s2b

Four frames in a row for Robertson to lead 4-2.

    Shocking stuff from Hawkins.
Calling his son Harrison wasn't great either.

    Tomorrow's semifinals...

1pm: Ronnie O'Sullivan vs Ding Junhui

7pm: Judd Trump vs Neil Robertson

I didn't think he looked miserable. I actually thought he didn't look particularly interested. He was cursing Trumps luck on a few shots and that was the extent of his visible emotion. It's almost like he's somewhat burnt out from years of hard graft which is how he plays.

Selby has always been an unusual top player for me. He often wins because of his B game rather than his A game, which isn't as good or as free flowing as say Ronnies or indeed Hendrys or Davis's when they were at their best, and despite his success I figure he's knows that deep down.

Selby's style if I could characterize it is is he looks like he was taught to play in a mechanical fashion as if he's no natural ability at all, and that is why I don't particularly enjoy watching him play despite his success and even great breaks.

His moving of his head on the shot is one of the more strange cueing anomalies that has ever been seen of any top player since ever really. I'm surprised he never worked on sorting this out.

To keep himself at the top I think he has to put in even more effort than the more naturally gifted players which will take it's toll over time as I said and I wonder if all this has contributed to him playing woefully today.

I only was the first 4 frames of trump Selby last night but trump was playing great.

His safety and tactical play was much better than I expected from him. He more than matched Selby who is one of the very best at that side of the game.

There was a 35 minute safety exchange in the first frame and the standard was excellent and trump won.

He was aggressive and played quickly so he was a pleasure to watch. It wasn't a complete performance or anything but it was a really good one. Hope he kicks on from here and makes a serious run fir the WC
