    Hi Guys,

I'm looking at the 55 inch Sony Bravia XF8505 on your site. I'm hoping you can answer a few questions.

I currently have sky TV - should I be able to plug my two satellite inputs into this TV and tune in the free satellite channels?

I also have a saorview aerial - should I be able to plug that in and tune in the channels available through that?

Finally, do you know if I'd be able to get an EPG, and would all the channels be combined (ie satellite and saoirview)?

    Thanks!

    Hi RonnieL.

    Thanks for the post.

The 55XF8505 does have two satellite tuners built and can take your Sky cables.

No issue connecting a normal aerial to get Saorivew either.

On televisions that have both tuners you have to view each EGP separately and they do not display on the one EPG. You have to switch between them
There could also be some issues with the free to air satellite stations not displaying in the correct order due to the TV having no freesat licence. (This can be easily corrected by moving them manually).

    Hopefully this is of help.

Any questions please let me know.

Thanks for the quick reply. I was doing a bit of googling since, and saw some people complaining about the EPG for their Satellite channels on Sony TV's showing "No event information", unless you actually select the channel, at which point it has only now and next. Does that sound right? If so, is that specific to Sony's?

..You actually can set the Sony up to display a combined EPG - however the EPG is extremely limited and programme info especially on the Freesat channels is variable - in reality its great to have the built-in Satellite tuner but it is not a complete replacement for a separate Freesat or Freesat HD box which will give you full functionality.

Hmmmm, I'm torn. I was drawn to the sony because I like the idea of an android os with a lot of apps, and we already use the google assistant a fair bit in my house, as well as separate chromecast which we'd be able to dispense with if I go for this set.

I just noticed the KD55XF8096 is cheaper. Is the only difference the 100hz refresh rate? Would that be worth the extra money in your opinion?

    THanks again for the replies.

    Hi RonnieL,

The 8505 panel is quicker at 100Hz and also has twice the processing power of the 8096 (400Hz vs 800Hz) so it is a much smoother panel and worth the extra in my opinion.

Let me know what you think.

    Kind regards

    David
