Apologies if this is the wrong section. Mods please move to appropriate one.

About 4 weeks ago my laptop died when the power was interrupted during a BIOS upgrade.

The HDD was fine and i've recovered all files, etc. from it, and will keep it as an additional external storage device.

The Noob question is this. The new laptop had no optical drive so i bought one, but cannot find my discs with MS office on it. Is there any way to "recover" that from the HDD? Is it even stored/kept on the old HDD and if so how do i go about it.

    Thanks for any input.

Yes you can with the Nirsoft Produkey app - it's free too.

    https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/product_cd_key_viewer.html

You'll need to run it with a command line "/external" which will scan and load product key information from all external Windows installations of the disks that are currently plugged to your computer (ie. when you've connected the old HDD as a USB drive). This will retrieve your Product Key.

Then using this key, you can download and reinstall office from Microsoft from the link below.
