Hi guys, I'm looking for advice on how to find other solo travellers looking to meet up....

I want to travel to a few different place in the next few years but none of my friends are interested or in a position to go so I'm trying to find a way to meet other likeminded people in a similar position that might want to meet up and travel together...

Any advice on how I could go about this would be great!

Hostels mainly, also doable on walking tours

Yep, hostels are your best bet, was in the same situation myself a few years back so said screw it, I'll go solo and haven't looked back since. Just look at reviews before you book and make sure it looks like it's solo friendly, generally smaller, highly rated places are the ones to go for and to avoid the huge chains like Generator (functionally they are great but not great for meeting people).

Apart from this walking tours can be good but also organised pub crawls are an easy way to hang out with people. Usually they aren't worth the €10 - 20 they generally cost but you're paying for the built in crowd which makes it far easier to meet like minded folk. Lots of hostels will do free pub crawls also. The best ones will have a common area for folks to interact and they'll organise dinner and games or ice breaker type events to get everyone mingling and then take people out later. It's surprisingly easy to meet and socialise in these settings regardless of how social etc you might be back home.

I've been to a good few all around Europe and some beyond if you need any recommendations.

Going solo is the best thing to do I find when visiting new places. You can do pretty much what you want when you want, nobody else to please, great way of meeting new people as well. Staying in hostels is best advised as they are much cheaper, head down to the meeting areas or the bars if they have one, get chatting to fellow backpackers and end up partying till all hours. :D

Is there any similar thing for over 40s who don't want a package in Tenerife and whose friends had kids later and so are still in the kids/mortgage scene and will then be in needing to get kids through college phase.....I am in this situation where my friends will be 60 plus by the time they can travel whereas I'm not. Any suggestions?

Would you be interested in the Travel Department trips ? We have been with them a few times and there are always single travellers in the group .

Also couchsurfing is a Great way to meet people when travelling. Most people who invite guests are folk that love to travel themselves and are giving back to the community

They do long breaks , short breaks and city breaks . You just turm up in the airport here and everything is organised . Usually the groups are good craic and you can join in or do your own thing
We have been to Rome , Lake Garda and Sorrento with them and always so interesting and easy

I find the travel department a bit too organised. Ive a friend swears by them.

Exodus travels, Explore, g adventures and intrepid are worth looking into.

I did thailand last year with Intrepid, wholly recommend it.

I did a cycling holiday with explore to north cyprus, when i say cycling, i woukd say more sightseeing with bikes, but the beauty of that one was it was point to point, so no sitting in a tour bus for hours.
