    Hi,

I'm a newbie to wordpress - Using Desktop Server to create offline versions to try.

However I'm getting long delays building the databases and error messages. I wonder if my Antivirus Avira is blocking it?

    See screen below...

    Thanks.

Thanks. My obvious worry is turning off aspects of Avira then...

You're kind of stuck with no option.

Desktop Server uses your local hosts file to map url's to your local server. Without it you'll be stuck accessing your dev site via IP addresses or http://localhost rather than something useful like sticker.local / sticker.dev

The only real security concern is some rogue software adds hooky hosts file entries to fake real sites.

E.g. it theoretically could be used to repoint aib.ie to big-bad-crooks.com

Keep an eye on the contents of the hosts file if you disable "Protect hosts file". Either that or disable/re-enable that setting as you need it.

Thanks. Think I'll knock it on / off when using it.
