Is this a new car for your mum to replace her current car?
Or is it a "new car" for your mum where you will have exclusive use?

Different things can lead to different answers

So your mum will try to get insurance on her own for the first time in a while?.
If it's more than 2 years since she had insurance in her own name then the benefits of her previous NCB will mostly no longer be recognised.
She may get some credit for the years she was a named driver on your father's policy.
This will not be easy or cheap.

She will then look to add you as a named driver?
This will not be cheap either.

Finally you have not really answered the question regarding who will be the primary user of the car.

Don't know how that works but I know she still has her NCB etc

No the 'new car' is not 'exclusive' for me.Its her car which I would imagine I can drive when she's not in work or using it directly

My 18yr old cost €1000 to add her as a named driver to an 06 1.2 Clio in our house for the 7 months remaining on the policy. She has all lessons done, and is waiting on her test now.

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”
