Well, Ryan, I think the thing about folk music is it gives people like us an opportunity to come on the Late Late and try to prolong our careers that bit longer.

Disclaimer: I've no idea how their careers are going. Hope they're doing well. Just being a bit bitchy, that's about it.

"It's colourless. It's odourless. It's hard to detect. But carbon monoxide deserves your respect. It'll kill you stone dead in just three minutes flat. And if you don't believe me ask me poor ould uncle Pat".

    Absolute classic.

In all seriousness, my three picks would be Grace, Old Man and Parting Glass. Three beautiful laments.

Parting Glass is one of my favorite ever songs. Voice Squad version especially

The fascinating thing about all of this is the flagrant filler that this all is. THEY JUST do not have anyone to invite on the show. So they have this kind of sentimental auld guff. Felim Drew does voiceovers, Mary Black's niece gets a promo. Yer man from the hot house flowers reminds us he's still around.

Me too. She had a fabulous voice. I always thought it was a pity she didn't extend her choice of songs. She sang a lot of Jimmy McCarthy stuff which I felt didn't do her justice.

Is irish rover a folk song, cant beat that with shane mcgowan and the dubliners

The Late Late Show version of that is shambolically utterly brilliant.

They should do an annual LLS folk music show, in or around Paddy's Day.
