Looking for ideas for a car for a birthday present

Currently driving a 1.6 auro tiida and want to upgrade

Needs to be automatic /dsg

Some decent power, gti / gtd, 530d

4 doors

Not huge milage for comute

Newer tax


Any ideas ?

At that mileage I think a diesel is madness. I also don't think you'll get to an 09 'chaep tax' 2.5+ litre with a bit of poke,

What would be the most tax youd pay, 750 ? 570 ? that might help.

Does not have to be 2.5 at all.

Just somethijg solid with poke to over take safley bigger brakes etc

700 on new system would be grand.

2.0 mk6 gti would be nice also looked at the lexus 220d.

aparantly the post 2008 325i and 525i just about make the cut, and the lexus gs450h.

Its a shame the 2.0d bmw engine is so bad.

yeah you might have to go to the UK. For the mileage being done id severely recommend ignoring any post 08 diesels, you'll run into big bills trying to keep all the emissions systems sorted.

Also the IS220d has a worse engine than the bmw diesels of that era.

Petrol cars around that era are rare..

Will do a search for 2009 auto petrols up to 2.0 and see results

Hard to see past a Golf Gti with DSG once there is evidence of the box having been serviced.

Lexus IS250 could be nice too.

theres some good deals on 2008 c180's , if you can find a 2009/10 one you'll pay more for it but the tax is 570 instead of 750 too.

theyre a supercharged 4 pot 1.8 petrol, theres very little that goes too wrong, it'll cost most than a corolla to keep but not by a lot. Theres no horror stories or engine chains failing or other craic like that with them. They wont be as sporty as a golf GTI but you'll feel a hell of a lot better than in a tiida or whatever you said in your first post.

No sorry for the other haĺf... she needs a car that she does not have to park around the corner , the tiida.

I will also drive it now and again so want to get something little bit better than normal.

I pay 1500 tax on the e39 so does not bother me that much but herself is ****e with money so tax needs to be realistic

I am very lost on the mercs... are there trim levels within the diferent class ? Like a golf with comforline etc

AMG is the sporty trim, elegance is the luxury trim , avantgarde is kind of mid level.

Its a nice golf...i have had mk1 2 3 4 golfs and am very partial to them..she likes them to.
TT would be my choice but she want 4 doors.

Decent c200 looks good value also. Has to have bluetooth etc. Not sure what mb are like with options

The golf generally doesn’t go far beyond the basics.
The one you linked to is nice but mileage is very high
