Heading abroad again to the usual family location in Spain but the apartment doesnt have wifi.

What are the best options here. 10gb roaminh is fine but with kids it woukd be great to be able to stream Netflix or IPTV without worry of hitting the limit.

Ourselves and others go over maybe 4 or 5 times a year so is there an option of buying a dongle and using a Spanish Sim?

Is there a cheap wifi for tourists that can be topped up a few times a year?

    Anyone with any ideas?

    Cheers in advance

i used yellowfish for airport transfers - they also do a mobile internet dongle for the week, collected from the driver, and returned to the driver.

i know thats faro and portugal, but it appears there are a few places offering this service in spain too.

https://www.my-webspot.com/pocket-wifi-spain/ was the 21st one i found in google.

I am in Madrid about 6 times a year and also take in a further 5-6 trips to Europe as well. I use a 3UK data sim bought from Ebay/Amazon

Typically the 24 GB sim is valid for 24 months and allows free roaming in all european countries as well as Australia and USA. The SIM doesn't need to be activated in the UK and speeds were reasonable in Spain,UK, France and Germany (>15Mbps)

I have also used a UK EE data sim while abroad and that has also worked well in Spain France and Switzerland. You can top up various amounts that are valid for 30 60 or 90 days. You may need to change the APN settings to get the best connection.

With regards to local SIMs, that is a little more complicated as when i went to get a pay as you go SIM from an Orange outlet, i was unable to purchase without a Spanish ID number and in general the value from the big Three networks is not great (Orange, Vodafone, Movistar) wasn't great. There was a stall at Madrid Barajas airport near the metro station selling data SIMs for tourists and I vaguely remember the price being 10GB for €20. Some other carriers "piggyback" on the big three networks and have better value. Simyo would have one of the better offers here at €17 for 25GB prepaid valid for 30 days. Simyo are carried on the Orange network and obviously you would need an unlocked router/hotspot

Have a look at the MVNO and MiFi offers further down the page.

Ended up getting a local sim card (Movistar) which was €20 for 20gb of date. Just needed to show my passport etc. Very handy indeed.
