The sun is out near Mallow but raw out there. Sleet and hail earlier but hopefully going on the radar some snow showers later this evening and tonight.

    Blue sky in Dublin

Same in Carlow, not a cloud to be seen. Absolutely bitter

    Blue sky in Dublin

same here in Meath, barely a cloud in the sky.

Showers are not making it much past the River Shannon, showers most likely to become even more confined to western coasts overnight.

Where is western coast coming from? Met Eireann in their latest update said western half of the country in their latest update but big difference to just the coast.

Thursdays weather is still a bit unknown. But the most likely situation is a mixture of rain, sleet or snow for Thursday, looks extremely marginal.

Last nights precipitation was modeled as snow in some of the charts including the GFS and it just rained with the exception of high ground.

This mornings GFS is mostly showing rain for Thursday. This chart should get updated very soon. Expect more changes to marginal percentage and position of front before Thursday.

Just got a text from Met Eireann requesting that any significant amounts are sent in to them rounded to the nearest CM.

    They're expecting some.

There's no colder pool replacing the air circulating over the next 24 hours. There's little to no budging the air when the Low moves below us on Thursday. Essentially what you get (with the exception of the south maybe) over the next 24 hours is what you'll probably get on Thursday, ie cold rain tonight more than likely means cold rain on Thursday

Why is the South different as a matter of interest? or might be different?

    0.2mm gets rounded to 1cm.

A true statement, but hopefully the radiated heat loss at night will help, but probably not much

From when do you have too Start reports

Nope, that's not how rounding works. It will have to be 0.5cm reasonably level to make a 1cm reading. Anything below that is a dusting, and gets noted differently on the monthly report.

I probably should have said showers heaviest along western coastal counties, maybe a few flurries will get as far as the midlands. As the temperature lowers during dark, the showers tend to move back and travel across the country less, compared to daylight hours.

Tonights charts show most of the country dry with a few flurries making it well inland. Coastal western counties stand the best chance of snow showers tonight. Donegal, Clare, Limerick and parts of Mayo appear to have better chances than anywhere else.

The LP has a warm centre and pushing milder air into south munster. All subject to change still but it's extremely messy at the moment so I wouldn't really look too much into it for now. Just waiting for the next HIRLAM rollout to see what it shows

UK Met Office charts wouldn't be what most want here but follow Harmonie that I have seen, a right mess to forecast this and either way everyone is going to be wrong in someones mind, get snow "it wasn't forecast enough", only get sleet and rain and "what was the fuss all about".

It’s a good job the Irish met eireann have only issued an advisory so. They are waiting as long as possible. By the way this never really upgraded or downgraded across all models. Only the ECM ever showed a very snowy scenario. The GFS and other models always looked mixed. Experience would also err on side of this being mixed. Obviously it hasn’t happened yet but the dust is starting to settle on a likely outcome that will not be ‘red warning’ or maybe not even ‘orange’. Where is the entrenched cold to deliver such a snowfall?
