Assuming a dead calm wind situation and flat land beyond the runway, is it better to take off uphill or downhill?

Downhill it might not add much to the velocity of the aircraft at takeoff, but gravity will give just a little bit more of a boost. Although I imagine the fuel savings and difference from standard takeoff velocity would be minimal.

Either way, you have to assume an engine failure before V1 and distance to stop in the calculations. So, uphill it'll take a longer distance to accelerate, but shorter to stop and vice versa for downhill.
