    The longer they are, the more compromised they are to being pried open. There's a reason the best are tiny U locks.

    I have that long series 4, as it's a good one for locking a semi-folded Brompton. I thought I was looking at an Abus that was longer than that, but all I can find doing a search now is about 30cm long.

    There are some very good, strong chain locks, but they're heavy. If you need extra length (as i do for the cargo bike), they're a good option.

    It's for locking a bike inside a garden shed. The shed is concrete block and my plan is to drill two holes through the shed wall to let me pass the lock in from the outside. If the lock is long enough there'll be enough making it to the inside for me to lock the bike with.

    Get a length of heavy duty chain and cover it with a MTB tube and get a decent padlock (as in a €40/€50 padlock).

    Alternatively get a chain lock from a motorcycle shop.

    Much more of a deterrent than a U lock.

    Why compromise the shed wall. Chain the bike to something awkward or heavy such as a ladder or gas cylinder. Most potential thieves will move on to an easier target.

    Is the floor concrete as well? You could fix a metal loop to it and lock onto that. Motorcycle security websites might offer some ideas

    Bit of a thread hijack but my new bike has an easily removable front wheel, would using the lock(https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/ie/en/kryptonite-new-york-m18-u-lock/rp-prod28854) on the front with a cable (https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/ie/en/kryptonite-kryptoflex-bike-lock-cable/rp-prod9630) through the back wheel be the best option

    Alternatively get a chain lock from a motorcycle shop.
    This is the option I use - it's an "oxford" chain, with separate lock. Sold Secure Silver for motorbikes, but they're rated Gold for bicycles. I got 1.8m length ones.

    Lock through the back wheel, cable through the front. Rear wheel is typically more expensive to replace if the cable gets cut. Wind the cable around frame and bike stand so there's no slack. Makes it harder to cut. Fill the U of the lock as much as possible to make it harder to wedge an attack tool in there.
