I believe what Nissan said was 5000 of the L62 limited edition, not 5000 in total.

It was the same when the L40 came out. They had a limited edition first before they opened the order books for the other trims.

That makes sense of course. Cheers.

They can easily get more cells if they want and build thousands of EVs a week

LG/Samsung are not flat out at all and the numerous other battery companies in the world are begging for automakers to increase orders, was reading it's so bad at Samsung that heads are rolling lol and Panasonic have been actively trying to find buyers for the cells it does for Tesla and it's NMC chemistry for years now

No cells is just spin from big auto, don't believe a word of it

BK alluded it to earlier with the reasons they can't go big in on electric yet, too much money invested in ICE tech, billions will be lost.

They thought the good times would last forever and now have been caught on the hop, been dragged, kicking and screaming into the new EV world

Getting the right number of cells at the right price is the key. Once you start building cars in large numbers the battery supply becomes the bottleneck and as the battery is the most expensive single component getting that last 20 percent discount is crucial. Not convinced there is enough supply in the market today. Even the VW with mega orders will be supply restricted (and will need to use cobalt rich chemistry) until late 2020 I suspect and won't be able to produce the Neo in proper numbers until then.

Not sure why Nissan seem to have issues building the L40. It could be intentional to keep the margins high but it could also be cell manufacturing supply issue due to attempts to sell the AESC where they may have not have invested to all three factories to produce the current gen cells.
